Ride in the Hira forest (pics incl)

zeRax and I hit the mighty Hira today, as they had finally reopened it, and let us poor bikers back in. We rode about 6 hours all up, and saw some mean action. We found some magic tracks, a that were just a good test of skill, without being crazy-horse.

Sorry about the picture clarity, I only have a cheapo digicam. My bike was a completely different bike to ride with the shock rebuilt, I was getting power down heaps more,, and was climbing steep hills in second, with minimal wheelspin, and pulling some mean uphill mono's in second as well. zeRax was hard on my tail the whole time, and really enjoyed the experience too. I think he's got the bug now.

Only a couple of snapshots, we had so much fun toward the latter part of the day, that I just clean forgot.

    Enjoy.

We rode for 6 hours, and barely scratched the surface of what that forest has to offer, next time we go out, we will probably do the north eastern block, which has some real humdinger tracks in it. We climbed some pretty gnarly tracks and hills, and found one fenceline track that we did a few times over, because it was so much fun.

Drive into Nelson City proper, and then drive about 5 minutes east, and you are in the carpark at the base of the Hira Forest. Hira is also a township on a north eastern? heading from the carpark we use, which takes about 35 mins by car from my place.

Takes me about 12 mins to get to the carpark from home.

nordie i pranged on my xr200 on a downhill, 2 fucked drums and trying to crash start it instead needed the engine breaking from word go, ended up getting raped. should have saw it coming and dumped it sooner than try recover and gain speed :/

came off really well thou as i was only wearing a tshirt, knees still grazed and bruises up leg and hip are fading now, few scratches on my arm, bent bars broken front brake lever and cables all pulled out of taught.

    fucking awsome place thou

hehe, I know your pain, I am drums front and rear too, the hill we were on got a bit slippery halfway down, but it was tricky with the slippery rock, not just dirt and clay.
