I'll still argue this one, I've seen more writeups where the 12 was faster than the busa.....

The hayabusa is the fastest production bike in the world. as recorded by the guniness book of records as of 317km/h which = 196.9747 m/h

'Kawasaki Ninja ZX-14: the most powerful and the fastest production motorcycle in history
September 23, 2005 For several years now, the 178bhp Kawasaki ZX12 has had the most horsepower of any production motorcycle, though it has played second fiddle to the 175 bhp Suzuki GSX1300 Hayabusa (named after the Japanese Peregrine falcon, one of the few animals on the planet which can travel at 300km per hour which it does during a dive) because the Hayabusa has a higher top speed – the Suzuki’s aerodynamics enable it to more than make up for the slight horsepower deficit and it has now held the title of the world’s fastest production motorcycle for six years since it launched. The Hayabusa’s top speed as measured by the Guiness Book of Records is 317 km/h. But Kawasaki’s just announced ZX14 company flagship boasts 1400cc, much slipperier aerodynamics and the most horsepower and highest top speed of any production motorcycle EVER! The publicity conscious Kawasaki is keeping mum on the exact figures but the rumours emanating from Japan indicate we are just about to see the world’s first 200bhp production motorcycle.'

Doing some googleing around there is a huge difference in which people say is faster, some mag test put zx12r others put busa on top, but alot of those tests are well bias in some ways.(not all)

As guiness is an indepent of bike mags/bike manfactors, what they have listed is the world record.

'In 2000, the big four manufacturers from Japan made a gentlemen's agreement to limit top-speed to 186 mph on all their motorcycles.' The zx12r was released in 2000, and i am sure at time of release at 2000 the 186 limiter was put on(i could be wrong and it was added in 2001)

The 2000 was unlimited (at least the first ones) but what is interesting is how much slower the production model was compared to the pre-production one, almost 1/2 sec in the quarter. There's a lot of little things on a 12 that could only be there to slow it down, things that no-one chasing hp would have done....
I'd be interested if the guiness guys had both bikes there?
Did anyone else notice that in that liink above the 12 was always faster, with the exception of one where it was the same.....

    Because the zx14r scares you
    says the 250 rider :/

Only restrictions I heard of on the 12R were inlet boots having notches or raised bits on some models (but benoullis theorum means that increases velocity and decreases pressure.... so you theoretically get more charge into the cylinder..?), some people mentioned cams being changed and some retarding of timing. I'll try dig up the thread somewhere off google.

In my opinion the B-Box should be the very first mod you do to a 01-04 ZX-12R. Sure, these bikes can't pull 200mph stock...but they will hit 186-189mph on the dyno. What you can do on the street with a GPS all depends on your size and tuck.

What good is having one of the two Top Speed Kings if it's limited to 186? Shit, if I never wanted to go faster then 180mph I would have got a liter bike and called it a day. 4-5mph might not mean much at 120mph, but when you see 190 on the speedo and it's a close race, you bet your ass those 5mph mean something.

I personally have felt the usefulness of the B-Box on the street. A few months ago a Busa rolled up next to me on the hwy thinking he was tough shit. He did a couple short sprints to show off...but on the 3rd sprint I took the bait and gunned it. Him and I were trading inches from 120-170. At around 180 (indicated) I started to pull away in front. I looked down at my speedo for a millisecond and saw 190...I was still pulling rather hard. (probably because it was only a true 180). Either way, I pulled my tach to just about redline and I started to slow down. I looked behind me once I was down to about 110mph and he was way back. I got back down to 70mph and waiting for him to catch up. He did and we both pulled over to talk. He let off at 188mph (indicated to him by GPS). He told me that he knew he wasn't going to catch me so he let off. But if you ask me...I think he was maxed out.

Had I not had the Box, he would have started to pull on me slowly....and would have soon after won the race. If that was the last time I'd ever have a top speed race, I'd still say it was worth every penny.

    03 ZX-12R= $10,999
    Akrapovic System= $1,200
    Bonneville Box= $89.99
    Showing a Busa who's Boss= PRICELESS
    off this thread http://www.zx-12r.org/phpBB2/viewtop...ht=restriction

But then some say the zx12r is not restricted. I guess it's where you go AND what market you buy it from eh?

Fark you lot crack me up, well those of you that are hell bent on slagging of the new ZZR14 why well, one , none of you have seen it, Two none of you know anything about the bike, and three it is the fastest bike on the planet and from what I have read a very capable sports bike and touring bike.
Im not getting testy about it, not at all, I do have an open mind, for example right now in my garage I have a Hyabusa, I intend on riding it today, I intend giving it a good ride and I intend on investigating its suitablility for my needs, if it meets them all I will probably buy it.

I believe the ZZR14 will be a better bike, as the 14 was built to be better, Im sure they succeeded, why wouldnt they........and next year when the new busa comes out Im sure that will be a better bike than the 14.

So to all of you closed minded suzuki or nothing worshippers

you will see me on the best hyper sports bike available on the market, whatever that may be soon
Ive run out of fucks to give
