Fan should come on at a particular temperature. It is electric so needs power to it & the temperature thingamebob (tech. term) to be working.
Start with new oil AND filter, but unless old oil is full of sludge etc don't flush'. You could flush cooling system & refill with correct mix of water/anti-freeze.
Do you realise how many holes there could be if people would just take the time to take the dirt out of them?

Well, when we first changed the oil, the old oil was green... But we didn't change the oil filter because I didn't think about that lol...

Where could i get anti-freeze or whatever? And if I did get some, where could i dump the liquid I do have? Could it just go down the drain or does it need special treatment or something? (Also does it cost a lot... *is slowly running out of $$)

You can buy anti-freeze liquid at most auto supply shops (Repco & Supercheap). Your old liquid will need to be disposed of correctly, go ask a garage about pouring your couple litres in their bin (might have to buy the anti-freeze from them though?).

How is Sam and her bike coming along?

All the best with the ZXR250C restoration.
90% of the time spent writing this post was spent thinking of something witty to say. It may have been wasted.

Sam's bike was a write off too, but at that stage we didn't realise that the bike shop had screwed us both by writing off bikes that both could have been fixed for under $1500. And because we didn't realise that, Sam decided not to keep her wreck...

So for now, Sam doesn't have a bike, she does want to get one in the future, most likely a cruiser of some sort, but that won't be, realisticly (sp) until close to the end of the year...

But since the fairings are off the bike and I'm starting it up every second to third day and leaving it to run for about 15 minutes, I've noticed that the fan behaind the radiator doesn't spin...

Is it meant to spin or only when the bike is moving or over heats?

Also: Affman: Seeing as I've got that new engine cover and we may need to change the oil again when putting it on... 2 things:

    1. Do you think I should get some type of engine flush? I've been told that I should get one, drain the oil, put the flush stuff in and let it run for about 20 minutes, then drain the flush and put in new oil... What do you think? And if you think its a good idea, any suggestions on what type of flush to get and where can I get it from?

    2. If we are going to have to change the oil, should I buy a new oil filter as we didn't change that last time?
Shit girl... you looking at rebuilding the thing from scratch or what?? Fan will come on but only at like 105 deg or something. Don't worry about the flush thing. and as I said wait till we get it rego's and warrented then we can put the side cover on etc etc cause if we are not really carefull (and depending on how many times the cover has been off) the gasket might need replacing (which if they don't have on could take weeks to get) so don't go buying all these things that the bike DOESN"T NEED. We'll get her on the road then worry about all that stuff else you'll probably run into complications and have to wait longer to ride it.

I've already spoken to the bike shop about the gasget, and he's going to let me know how long that will take...

vtnz (vehicle testing new zealand) I think do them... There are only certain places that do the compliance check and revinning. So you'll have to ask.

    Thanks crashe & Aff-man

I called up 018 and they put me through to VTNZ in Glenfield. VTNZ doesn't do motorcycles (apparantly) and they gave me the number for "On Road Compliance" in Glenfield.

They are only open Mon-Fri from 8.30am to 5pm. The compliance costs $175, and if the bike passes, they can register is on the spot and give me a new number plate for $190. And I can then ride it home...

The guy said I could ride the bike into the testing centre, but risk about $800 in fines if I get caught on a non-WOF'd and non-registered bike that could possibly be un-safe for road riding... He then gave me a tow company's number and they will charge me $60 to tow the bike from Birkenhead to Glenfield ($60 is better than $800 in fines).

So on Saturday we will build the bike back up, and then I'll book the compliance for about Tues/Wed and get that sorted...

*now needs to buy a new helmet*

    *is super excited*

And Jono... you need to tell me what you drink or something... I owe you

ok... Well I've brought an oil filter (for when the engine cover and gasget are changed and new oil put in). Also brought a new clutch lever (the other one i brought was second hand... the new one was only $12).

And... I brought me a new Shark helmet yay!

And some anodised blue bolts to replace the gold ones for the fairings... don't tell Jono

Ok, Aff-Man came over on Saturday, and we made a bit more progress... Bolted the air filter back in, replaced the clutch lever and tightened the brake connections thingys and topped up the brake fluid (I know... they'll need to be bleed at some point...), we popped the subframe back on, the instruments and spray painted the new top/front fairing black as a temp job until i get the bike painted...

Came up with two new problems...

    1. The subframe is bent (which we knew it was, but didn't realise how bad until we came to put the fairing back on... it's about a good 7cm out of place... so will hopefully have that sorted by next week.

    2. The new top/front fairing doesn't come with holes for my indicators... so new indicators are required that doesn't need us to cut massive holes in the new fairing... (Have my eye on about 3 different types on tradeMe)

Also didn't put the new engine cover and gasget on the ZXR, need to buy some more oil before I do that...

Otherwise everything else is running smooth

Don't forget to mention the mint spray paint job on the fairing hahahaha.

Yeh well that subframe is well and truely bent. If the guy says he can straighten it though then let him at it. With that much bend the frame is sure to have suffered metal fatigue and so don't like his chances at straightening it without snapping or really weakening it.

But once that is sorted All we need to do is put the fairings back on and sort some indicators out (which should be easy as) and she'll be ready for vinning. A little sad we didn't get it all back together but thems the breaks I suppose.

Keep the other subframe. If the guys snaps it while bending it or whatever then I'll try get the other one welded.
Can you believe he said you have to bring it in on the bike to get it straightened. How the hell is anyone meant to do that except by trailering it in??

If that guy does come and try to fix the subframe... and it breaks... should they replace it for free... afterall they sold it to me and they tried to fix it?

(Just wants to make sure I have all my bases covered before I sort this out)

p.s. the spray paint job was good it does look mint
