Warbirds over Wanaka - who's going

    Hi All

Just wondering how many KBer's are heading to the warbirds over Wanaka?? I know off at least 3 and was wondering if there were any more going.

We leave for our big South island adventure on Friday , spending two weeks seeing as much as we can. Travelling with a mate on his ZZR1100 and both partners.

Just got the Blackbirds seat re done and once again big ups to Mcdonald Motor Trimmers and thier Rider seats, only one word for it "Fantastic"

So if you see a blue blackbird and a red ZZR1100 both two up that'll be us enjoying two weeks of freedom.

    Cheers

    Brian

Myself and my wife are going.
We're riding down from ChCh on Saturday morning.

    So look out for a ZX-10 & VT250.

Damn the timing of easter this year. I live only 50 minutes from Wanaka airfield, and for the 2nd Warbirds in a row I'm working right through the event.

However, if any northern visitors want a local ride on any of the days before easter just give me a call (details on this site), I'll be pleased to join you.

Oh, and some accomadation available right here for KBers going to warbirds.

I'm gonna make it one of these days...

Talking to one of the pilots down there. He said that there was almost one less aircraft to be displayed this year! A slight problem with the engineering shal we say...

I'm looking forward to the airshow as well as the ride down from Welly to ChCh and then on to Wanaka.

Shall take a stack of pics.

Damn Rhino and I are going to miss this one. We went to the 2004 airshow and it was awesome!!! Look out for the Lithuanian - Jurgis - what he can do with a plane defies logic and physics!!!

I loved the WW1 planes too. The triplane was described as "Trying to land a venetian blind!!!" :spudbn:

I have heard on another forum that an Australian F-111 swing-wing jet may be paying a visit. That will be cool !!!!

sweet.... big bastards them buggers, they of course will only be doing a fly by (X Dunners, mind you Chch is only 5min's up the rd)

Theres been a little action at Wigram over the last week or so, The Orion (beaut sound for a turb prop) couple a radial powered single seaters, and them bloody obnoxious air trainers

I havn't missed a show for many years and been to every Omaka show, but this year theres no talk about going and I have found since Tim has sold a lot of aircraft that it has lost a lot of its appeal for me....... and a few have crashed.

heres a pic of my all time fav... Sea fury, OMG what a sound.

Yup,...the Orion is cool , esp when they do a high-speed flyby. Boy, can that thing move !!!

May favouite pic is of the Lavochin La-9 which came here for the 2002 show. It's a Russian WW2 fighter and the only one of it's kind flying.
    Here's a pic I took.

    Hopefully more KB'ers are going.

Checked out the warbirds site and they confirm that a F-111 will be there so it's going to be a great day.

    cheers

I must admit I’m rather fond of the warbirds myself, been to a few of them, hopefully I can get there, unfortunately a cobber is racing in the hillclimb in wanaka on the same weekend and wants me to film that too so I’m hoping to somehow work both. I just brought another camera so I’m itching to find out how it goes. Those WW2 planes put most cameras to the test.

1st post so I hope this goes OK!

Leaving North Shore on Wed morning (12th April). Happy to ride with anyone to Wellington that day, and further if it suits.
