    Castle Point Road

Normally, one would complain about a road.

    Today I do not.

I've always liked the Castle Point road, not quite tight and twisty enough for me, but it has always been a good one. So I went to Castle Point yesterday, and I was delighted to discover large sections between Masterton and Castle Point have been resealed. This must have happened only in the last month or so, I am sure I went out that way not long ago and it wasn't this good. And well resealed too, by the looks of things.

Acres of grip, no HP, basically no silly ruts or anything mid corner so go as quick as you dare (Even on a Suzuki!) . There are still a handful of torn up corners in places, but they are by and large, absent.

So if fast sweeping corners are your thing, you are in heaven.

And, amusingly, a small telephone exchange appears to have exploded, which looks quite funny on the side of the road.

I've only ever ridden it once, at bloody stupid speeds too, and thought the road was mint back then. It must have gone down hill since, then ben fixed again.
Might be time to do it again. If I ever manage to get me a road bike. Looking like I'll miss the last warm rides of the season cos the Fizzer is dedicated to stunting and the FJ still dont go.

    Glad to hear that

I had a bad spill there approx 1982. BJ was on a TT500 in front of my original GS750 with my mate pillioning. The rest were all on 2 strokes about 2 miles back - it was a windy day - BJ went around a tight corner, I saw the dust as he hit the unsigned roadworks and tried to get the bike around but the sun was in my eyes and the gravel was the width of the road. All three of us got thrown about 30 feet down a grass bank and into what luckily was a stuffed fence. As we were doing approx 50mph at the time it was unbelieveable that none of us got any serious injuries but my handlebars were stuffed and my pillion had my brothers speargun in a backpack which got folded into two. I have often wondered how close that came to getting stuck through me as we got thrown off. It was so funny seeing my mates crawling up that grass bank and we all cracked up laughing but it could so easily been a very serious event. Checked out the scene. Bloody roadworks sign was laying flat on the ground. Still old story, need to be extra careful on any country road. Looking forward to spending a night up there and doing some fishing off the bar. Staying in a motel though this time... sleeping under the pines too much now.

    Great...

Perhaps we could start a KB crashpad exchange forum. Hi !! I an KB exchange 'student' motorcycling around NZ and your son in law said I could stay here the night. Nah... rather stay in a motel and get to scratch myself whenever and whereever with a ice cold beer after a fun day fishing. Sniper - do you ever go and do any fishing over there? Use to be good fishing off the
front I heard. Yes, I know its dangerous but only fishbait turns their backs on any sea.

    Wow....

so the in laws have a boat then? You need to watch out for those Makos. You dont catch them much as they try to get you. Twin brother use to do commercial fishing outside the Houhora harbour in the far north so hes got a few stories about 'bloody' makos. Glad to hear you enjoyed yourself. Got a good rod and reel so I have no real excuses not to head over there, its only 100 miles each way so perfect distance and then theres the rimatukas. Just need to put heavier line on the reel to handle the rock fishing. Have you ridden to Castlepoint or only done it by car?? You will notice it mentioned a lot as a fravourite ride on this site.

and if you guys do, post your ferry arrival. I am sure a few of the KB's would love to escort you to Castlepoint. Wouldnt your motor in law just LOVE to see a dozen hairy bikers coming for morning tea. Just dont expect a reinvite afterwards... but thats what you want isnt it???

Its like the age old saying of mixed feelings translated for motorcylists.

Ride the perfect roads, only to visit the mum in law.....
