Hey there. Harley 883's sell for around $18,000 or $19,000 new, so $15k for a 2004 model with low ks is a pretty good deal i reckon.

Wasn't there a HD 883 sportster ST or something .. the really cheep one.. going for $12,995 I remember it was the same as my Vstrom at the time.

Slash you can't have checked the prices lately dude, ever since the imports have been coming straight in from the US rather than through the Aussie agents who were creaming off the top, knock $4-5k off that.
You can get a brand new base model rubber mounted engine (doesn't rattle itself to bits) 883 now from a dealer for $14k.
$17-$18k now will get you a 1200. Buy a new 883, spend $1500 kitting it to 1200 and you save $1.5 - $2.5k if a 1200 is what you want.
Of course all this is only until our dollar shits itself.
It depends on the model, but 883's start at $14100 new. He's dreaming.

like lou says:

and there's a stack of 'em for sale under $14k too
Lou is right, even if he spent money on extras I new one is still less than $15K. That's why I've decided to go for a new one rather than a second hand one with an unkown history.Originally Posted by Lou Girardin

Good for us consumers I guess, but I feel a bit for my dealer customers who pay the licence fees, train the staff, carry the $tock of parts and tow the factory line too.:slap:
It has already. But why shouldn't we be a dumping ground for 2 wheeled cast-offs as well?Originally Posted by Big Dave

As a dealer in high end electronic products.. Our company sees the down side of this all the time. Folks buy these grey imports cheap and when they break they come crying to the official dealer 'cos the grey importer usually won't help.Originally Posted by Lou Girardin
We actually try to help but it usually costs us money. Plus, just because we have the brand name on it, it may be a line we don't deal in so we just plain cannot assist. (people never believe you)
The downside is the official dealers that have been ripping people off for years with dodgy service ...
i had a look on singapore e-bay. 2004 883 for nz$14k.
$15k dude is dreaming.
