"Silk Riders" by Jo and Gareth Morgan

I have just finished reading the book. It is a good read although quite short (190 pp) so a bit short on detail in places ie a bit of a travelogue (whateva that is). Travelled through some quite dangerous and outta the way places. But as I read it over just a few days it obviously held my attention so I'd give it 7.8 outa 10. Its probably shortish cos they were too busy planning the trip they are on now to the back blocks of the US.

So if anyone local (Chch-ish) wants a lend of the book, PM me.
I have just found out that they have removed the word gullible from the dictionary

Yeah, I just finished reading it yesterday. My first reaction was similar to yours in that I thought it was more sketchy than most travelogue type books I have read in the past.

Then again, they were working to a tight schedule and were crossing big countries in only a few days. Made me think I should read the Marco Polo book that Gareth Morgan was using.

Is it much different from the diary they posted on their website as they did the trip? They have some great photos on the website too.

I wasn't previously aware of the website so can't comment in that respect.

In the acknowledgements though they say John McCrystal "crafted this manuscript based on some pretty rushed and interrupted interviews with us".

Shit!! Inflation's out of control again.
Seems only a week ago it was just $43,000,000.

But I guess $10,000,000 here, $10,000,000 there, it soon adds up... :-)

Look forward to that read. Although it sounds like it may not have the riveting stuff that was posted on The Silkriders Website: while they were enroute. If you haven't been to the website, there are some bloody good reads there...........
