Thread: Gravel Roads

That's where a 21 with a knob comes in,gets down into it and the knobs bind it together,or somat. The older profiles like the 3.50 19 on my XS1 work well too, that's a big tyre, but the profile and stiff sidewalls allow it to work.

With my cars all those years ago I used skinny cross ply tyres, they got down to the road base and the stiff sidewalls swept the stones away.A radial has round shoulders and soft sidewalls, this allows the stones underneath and the tyre rides on top.Same applies to bikes.

That road is now sealed the whole way, last time I rode it was about 6 years ago on a Pantah while it was still gravel,it was a bit of a challenge but not to bad,we're going to ride it Sunday weather permitting and see what its like now.

Hey, that's interesting. Would be keen to know what you think of the road now.

Yeah, the GTR1000 I was riding at that time was no trailie. But a trailie would have been a blast on that road at that time.......

The key to riding in gravel reguardless of speed is traction. Loose traction and you will start to slide. That is pretty obvious to all here. If your bike has a steering damper loosen it off. There are times when you should allow the bike to go with the flow. Stiff steering not good when the bike wants find its own way. The other factor is to keep the revs up. Start cruising' on the gravel and you will bin it.

Uh,that's the whole point in it? controling a slide - can only help you in the real world. If I'm not loose,I'm not really in control in gravel.
