I organise social events at my workplace so I might try and organise a ride closer to mid November and see if anyones interested in booking several cabins. Go night fishing or taxi to the pub. Do they have one in the village now or is it still several miles back down the road? I have fond memories of drinking out of bar flagons there back in the 80's. We use to get a small group of about 6 bikes and pillion passengers and go and sleep the night under the southern pine trees.. which may be gone by now. Get up first thing and go spearfishing. Getting too old for that sort of adventure now though. That german lady was running away from her boyfriend but eventually they made up and she took off to New York to reunite with him. I last heard from her back in the mid 80's after she wrote from Germany. Funny how you tend to meet a lot of people when riding.
Then came the day when cages were confined to zoos.. and the bipedals ruled the earth again.. Tu@ advt # 666 Return of the beasties

A nice, ride but a 50 zone. As I discovered the hard way. Don't say you weren't warned (it looks like a 70 at least).

You could always try "Hitcher's test ride loop". Start at any city bike shop. Head across to Aro Street by any route. Ride up and over the hill. Take Churchill Drive up through Ngaio, Khandallah to Johnsonville. Then take the back road to Tawa. At Tawa, turn right and take the motorway north to Porirua. Turn off, turn right as though heading to Porirua East, but instead get back onto the motorway back into town. Either retrace your steps from the Tawa off ramp or head back on down the motorway to town.

For a very quick ride head up to the lookout from Oriental Bay and down the otherside into Kilbernie. If there are no cars in front of you it is great for a blast.

Yeah Akatarawa's are good, just a little narrow in places to be winding the bike up too much. The short stretch from the northern side to Waikanae was excellent though. Nice clear view (for cops), and super fast.
