Arrow Auckland Bike riders - OIL SPILL - 3/5/06

All Auckland motorbike riders there is a bad OIL Spill up on Mt Eden Rd and near Kyber Pass.

Sand is being laid on the spill, but they may miss some of it and some will have been spread out of the area by vehicle wheels.

Please read the quote as to all effected areas.

    Please take care.

Location of incident: New North Road, Eden Terrace

    Incident Type: Oil Spill

Police and Council are cleaning up an oil spill of unknown origin on New North Road between Mt Eden Road and Virginia Street.

The intersection of NNR and Exmouth Street has been closed due to an accident resulting from the spill.

Other closures are being put in place that will effectively close NNR from the City end for a kilometre. Symonds Street between Mt Eden Road and Khyber Pass is affected to a lesser extent and it has not yet been necessary to close the road there.

A large amount of sand will be required to deal with the spill in the wet conditions and it is not yet possible to estimate the length of the closures.

Motorists are strongly advised to avoid the area altogether and to take extra care in the vicinity as oil is tracked further out from the original scene.

All roads are now open in the Eden Terrace area following the earlier spillage although Council advise that care is still required.

Could be worth a chuckle......I'm working in Newton today and the carpark exit is on Exmouth. A few bikes up here, so if any of the AirNZ guys are reading this, I'll lay down a skidpan challenge!! Do 3 full donuts without dropping it and a choccie fish to the winner.
