So if you buy a S/H one, its going to have some other pillocks name on it! Great for resale value, huh!

Yeah I thought of that as well. But the flipside, what if the first owner was named, for example Carl Fogarty (the Carl from say Ekatahuna , not the UK!) then the resale would be boosted up. Arnie was declined a Tamborini because the engraver couldn't spell long Austrian names and the headstock wasn't wide enough anyway.

Is it just me or do others find it creepy that some of us actually know this kind of stuff! I guess people on Plane websites might find it creepy that there are other sites where people know what a cg125 is or a ZXthis and that is. Jim2 and Dynamytus must spend far too much time reading encyclopedias

Nope. It's a Macchi (original name for the Aermacchi aerospace company) C.205 "Veltro". The only German things about it are the license built Daimler Benz DB605 engine and redesigned 20mm MG FF cannons. Longer barrels and higher rate of fire than the German original. It gave US P38Js and Spit IXs (the US used Spit Vs and IXs in the Mediterranean Theatre fairly extensively) absolute fits in 1943, just prior to the Italian armistice. It was a development of the DB601 engined Macchi C.202.
