It probably would be a good idea to start on a smaller bike, even if it is something cheap and a little underpowered that you are going to outgrow in a year or so. And the fines, demerit points etc if you get caught on a 600 on your learners wouldn't be much fun.
There is lots of information on the forums here about different learner bikes.

hey every1. iv been looking at a fu bikes, n 4 something smaller, do u reckon a 250 would b better?? that means i can get a licence- always good, nd it wont be too powerful, aye?

I recommend a GN250, its the greatest learner bike. Also the best fuel economy, I can get round on $5.50 a week, up to $10 if i went for a ride in the weekend. And you can get an '05 for about $3000, but a '85 is usually just as good. Spare parts are everywhere, and cheap. Top speed is round 120km, but remember it is just a learner bike. And its best to stay on this next bike for at least a year, dont try to upgrade too soon.
