    Wgtn People...

Hey is anyone at all able to spare a few minutes this arvo before 3pm and come down to the KPMG building (Victoria St). A workmate of mine owns a CBR400 and went to go home at lunchtime but his bike wouldnt start. Went down to have a looksie but damned if I know (im just a girl...) anyhow the kill switch wasnt on and there is gas in it. I dont think its the battery as all the lights come on when he turns the key the bike just doesn't seem to "engage". Anyway im useless and he's a bit stressed so any help would be appreciated!

Heh, it's a honda should be sweet

Did you two try push starting it? Might have a problem with the starter motor?

Put it in gear and give it a rock. If the starter motor is somehow stuck this might break it free. Then take it out of gear (duh) and try it. Of course, it might have nothing to do with the starter motor. In which case I can come down and stand around scratching my head with you.

cheers for the offer. Big thanks to Jim and Paul for coming down. Looks like it's not going anywhere unless its on a trailor, it appears to be a blocked fuel line or pump... He had it booked in at Boyles for Monday to do the fork seals so he'll see if he can drop it of there this arvo. Thanks again Jim and Paul for coming and looking at it and madboy for the offer!

Jim scratched his head so hard all his hair fell out!

I still think it's got too many cylinders and who the heck put a bloody fuel pump on a bike? Sheesh!

Is that common? Why do you need a pump when the fuel is stored higher than the engine?

It's a supply & demand thing. Fuel injection systems require higher pressures and large bore carburetted engines often require more than gravity will supply.

You also get consistency of supply as the volume is directly related to engine output.

Well if that's the case, I demand the supply get better and the price come down!!

I doubt gravity could supply a carb'd gsxr1000 at full chat.

/edit: mind you, you could fit some dirty big hoses

... and a lot of the bikes have carbs and airboxes and things like that right up inside the underneath of the tank these days too.

My bike came from the factory with velocity stacks and nought else except a bit of mesh to stop it swallowing small dogs and sparrows.....
