Man runs 2Litre car on used vegetable oil brought from local takeaway giant.
No modifications to engine, runs as fast as on petrol and costs 62c a litre.
Exhaust smells like 'fried food'.
Runs a four wheel drive using same oil without any problems.

Does this mean we will have McBikes coming out soon.????

If the sellor is proactive in selling to provide a better use of its waste produsts then they will get a very big from me. Not that I eat from that certain place much but everyone needs to change to make better use of resources. Dont like the idea of smelling like fried onions at the lights though.

Been a guy on the North Shore been running a Nissan diesel van on used cooking oil for a long time now and there's a guy up this way offers a conversion kit for this purpose for about $1500. Think the van owner hasn't made any mods to his vehicle though. Diesels will run on a variety of fuels, they go excellent on CNG but that's not readily available anymore.

so used cooking oil., whats the difference , what happens to the oil chemically that allows u to use it . perhaps we can start buying bulk vege oil and doing some process to it to allow us to run on it

there are two ways of running a diesel on used cooking oil,
1 = biodiesel, this is converted oil or waste oil, that goes through a chemical change, (i wont get into it but anyone can do it..) the verhicle does not require any mods to run this, maybe a little extra servicing thats it..
2= is wvo (waste vegetable oil) you need to install a second tank into your car, diesel car,,
this will take filtered waste oil from your local takeaway-- yum yum,,
you start out on diesel , and when the oil (wvo) is heated in the holding tank you can change to the wvo source, from diesel,
this requires some mods-- anyway, i can go into a lot more detail but thats it in a nutshell--

have seen biofuel from frying donuts or something like that used before.....pain in traffic as the smell just makes you starving hungry by the time you get home.

You don't need no fancy process and preheaters to run vege oil,that's only for in the UK and US where all this information comes from - it's cold there and the oil solidifies like the oil in your fridge....take it out of the fridge and it turns to liquid again.You can run that straight in the tank - I have.You need a filter to run used oil though.

They'll have to use some fancy method to mix the lard in for NZ Biodiesel though,as lard is solid at air temps.

Yeh and thats just your guts you're talking about isnt it?? Worried about steel then what about membranes. ? A lot of takeaways use Canola oil now. Wonder which is the best? Perhaps used peanut oil? Expensive. Sunflowers? cheap and easy to grow. No more excuses for a cetain KB bloke anymore than. Out of petrol? stop off at the local fish & chip shop. I suppose you could alternate between petrol and vegie oil to protect the engine but the oil would be well filtered anyway.
