    Need advice: Quality cheapish helmet

    Hi all

Could I please get some advice on a good helmet to get for $250 or less? I had a KBC TK8, but came off recently and bounced on my head a couple of times, and thus need to replace it. Should I just get the same again (seemed to work as I am not dead), or is there a better make for a similar price (I'm a poor student, so this is splashing out, sadly)?

Had a search in past posts, but there was nothing there that seemed relevant.

Any help would be hugely appreciated.

    Thanks.

I had an HJC CS-10 which from memory was under that price (maybe under $200) and quite a good helmet...

I've got a TK8 and I really like it (bf has one too, so they can't be too bad) The equivalent price HJC helmets are supposed to be pretty good as well. FFM had a full face helmet that was even cheaper, but it wasn't very comfortable with my glasses, and the graphics on it were seriously awful. But it still had to meet the same safety standards as the KBC and HJC.

You're in Auckland so I'd suggest a visit to Motomail's Outlet store in Western Springs Road. I was in there a few weeks a go and they had HJC CL-14 helmets for a really good price (< $150 if I remember correctly).

All helmets currently for sale new are good. They all meet the same standards.

The MOST important thing is fit. You shouldn't be able to rotate the helmet over your face from behind and there should be no pressure points.

The cost from there comes down to features, paint job, accessories, and so on.

I'm an HJC fan too, and from memory you can get a CL14 (with no graphics) for under $250. Really comfortable and good vents etc.

Tboy, that's cos your Shark spends a significant amount of time sliding along in mud and dirt!

Thanks for all that - I went to motomail today, and after much fluffing around trying on HJC helmets, I settled for another KBC TK8 - it just fits my head perfectly - HJC was a bit funny-fitting (I have a strangely-shaped head). Very helpful staff at motomail, too.

Am getting my scooter back tomorrow, hopefully - am heartily sick of busses.
