Get over yourself. You do realise that the a cop could take your harley as an "annoyance" to any person (including me) and give you the $600 fine.

I think you have missed the point of this discussion and as my mother used to tell me, if you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all.

Er, No a cop could not do that. The offence is driving in a manner likely to cause annoyance to any person or damage to property.

The annoyance can't be due to the type of vehicle it has to be to do with the manner of the driving. Otherwise every Mazda rotary on the road would be getting this ticket on an hourly basis. I hate those bloody things!!!!!!!

But driving a rotor at night, even in a careful manner, would have pissed the guy off who pulled me over as my car was too loud for the situation(night)

what is the current police policy on the noise emmitted from a vehicle ? ?

Interesting this one. They can ping a BR for having a loud exhaust, but if the same car hoons down your street with a fecken loud stereo, sub and the works - they can do nothing......

I was trying to do two things:

    • Point out that there are other penalties than tickets/monetary inconveniences
    • Point out that you need to choose the time & place carefully, not only for the general publics safety, but also for your own safety.

I don't do wheelies myself, and I enjoy watching other do wheelies & similar stunts on their bikes, but I firmly believe that there is a time & a place, and downtown Auckland during business hours is NOT the time or place!

I prefer Glen Livet myself. A bit smoother than the standard Glenfiddich if one doesn't want to spend big biccies on a bottle. Best stuff in the world to get drunk on.

Actually a TRUE believer would know that the best ones come from the Isle of Islay.

My two favourites - Laphroaig and Lagavulin - have the most wonderful peaty, smokey flavour to them. Those of you a little less cultured would compare the smell and taste to that of wet dog fur.

And I to my motorcycle parked like the soul of the junkyard. Restored, a bicycle fleshed with power, and tore off. Up Highway 106 continually drunk on the wind in my mouth. Wringing the handlebar for speed, wild to be wreckage forever.

Oh, I'm a true believer. Laphroaig is my favourite. I drink Glen Livet when I need to drown my sorrows but feel low on cash (ie, when a less enlightened individual might consume bourbon or some other such degreaser). Hence my comment in response to Mark's "if you're going to get blotto"...

[Edit: in other words, I consider it a crime to continue drinking Laphroaig past the fourth or so glass. I stop appreciating it.]

The noise alone would not get you $600 for annoyance, like I said it is the manner of the driving that is important. A very noisy vehicle would probably get a green sticker as it is probably not up to WOF standard.

The legislation regarding vehicle exhaust noise is an absolute cluster F**k and as a result most noisy vehicles are green stickered and thats about it.

I’ve always been careful not to pull wheelies on the road as it’s a fairly easy way to loose your licence. And I’m crap at it except on my trials bike. My old RZ was a contender though, could never get the gear change right while you’re up though.

Did almost flip it at a set of traffic lights on the motorway. From slowing down from 100 they changed green & nothing was coming so I cracked the throttle open. Started coming up while still at quite a respectable speed “yeah baby! This is the best wheelie I’ve ever done” Quite unintentional too.

“um, it’s still coming” -shite, I’m not covering the back brake!!, close throttle & hope. Came down with a thud & I decided to treat trips to work with a little more caution from there on.

The silliest thing I got pulled for was on my RG50, again on my way to work, he pulled me & told me his ‘police intuition’ had told him something didn’t fit as I was wearing full leathers riding a small bike. EH?!?

Usually I am quite respectful but I told him this was just plain harassment & I think I added something about catching real crooks instead of making me late for work. Of course you think of the perfect comeback just as you leave. This was about the time that cop got caught setting his own house alight for the insurance.

So what I should have said was -“What else does your Police intuition tell you? That you could torch your squad car & blame it on the satinists?”

Course this was another comedic tragedy lost to the nuances of timing.

What I was trying to say (in a somewhat clumsy way I admit - but it was the alcohols fault ) was that pick the right time/place for stunts 'cause if you upset the man he has that wild card I mentioned - the $600 one.

I was also a bit (well o.k a lot) zealous with my criticism of those that get caught out and then blame the other driver/thecop or whoever when they speed or do a stunt and crash or get pulled up when "sensible " riding would not have seen them in that predicament.

I take responsibility for being a bit over the top although I was suprised to see what I had typed was readable what with the amount of booze I had consummed!! I was also pleased that I got the number of responses - I'll have to do it again 'cos my normal replied etc. rarely provoke a reaction.

Actually, if you met me you would be surprised how mellow I am !!!
