Hey, it's my no.1 choice for whiskey too! Just love Laphroaig can't say I have tasted Lagavulim but if it's as good I'll give it a shot.

Pleasantly surprised that there are so many whiskey sipping riders out there

The night of those messages ( which shall henceforth be banned to the dark past from whence it shall never emerge)) I was having a clean out of my liquor cabinet and draining the last of a bottle of Jack Daniels, the infamous bottle of Glenfiddich and a bottle of old Wilsons so no wonder my thought process was not quite up to par - even with my Celtic origin it was a bit much

Cheers guys and thanks for the tolerance

We stick to Jimmy, Johnny, Jack and Grants.

We have way to many visitors who make full use of our bar to have anything more exotic than that availible to the masses.

I am often guilty of buying better whiskeys "coz they were on special".

We do have a private reserve of Johnny Blue. (those who like scotch and consider themselves conoiseurs will know why that is not for general consumtion.)

Don't really know my irish though.

I like where this thread is going

ScumDog's really kicked this thread off on a tangent.- Glen Livet, Laphroaig, Johnny Blue Lagavulim, Glen this Glen that... Can't pronouce half em and never tasted the other half. I can see a South island tour ending at ScumDog's. Everyone has to bring a bottle of their fav whiskey.

Johnny blue is mighty expensive.... going through duty free coming back from Aussie I was browsing and I was shocked at how much it was - even without the taxes Definitely not something you drink because you are thirsty

Anyone else tried a whiskey called Sheepdip?
A few years back there was a bar about halfway down Queen St that had a huge top shelf of whiskeys. One of them was Sheepdip. I'm not a big scotch drinker, so I can't say if it was any good or not. Had the desired effect, however. It is mentioned on this page http://www.hallmarkofstjames.com/Price/sjwhiskylist.htm
    described as a "vatted malt"
it's not a bad thing till you throw a KLR into the mix.

Now you're talking!! Whisky and cigars?!?!?!?

How about March 2005?? My Whisky, Red Wine and Guiness loving man and I are taking a Whisky and Red Wine loving English friend of mine on a two week bike tour round the South Island.

    The more the merrier!!

PS. Whisky (without the "e" ) is the Scottish variety and Whiskey (with the "e" ) is the Irish variety and they get very annoyed if you mix them up, believe you me!!!

Try between $320-399 retail, or around $220 from Hong Kong on duty free.

One of my staff brought it back on his way back from a holiday in India.

Apparently In India you can pick it up for $120 duty free if you are not Indian. He told me he was not allowed to buy it because he was from a non drinking province.

At one stge we had all of the above and had some freinds over for a taster.

    Last time we do that.
    One year the pillion got;
    Black label for 20th.
    Gold label for Valentines.
Green label cos I thought it would look good on the bar with the others.
    And Blue for her 21'st.

I know not a lot of imagination but she was trying to start a bar. For other minor things like Xmas easter etc she got various other spirits. :eyepoke:

Hey, this sounds like one of the most positive things to come from this thread (or off-topic) so far - let's add some detail to it like date & numbers
