Thread: Bike Names

  1. #31
And in the early TS bikes,S was for street,M was for motocross....like TS400 and TM400.I liked the Suzuki names better - TS250...Savage,TS400...Apache,TS125...Duster - and there were Stingers and Wolfs and Honchos and Hustlers,Titan....and unfortunatly the customer named Waterbus/bucket/buffalo.

from memory the GT750 was the LeMans, the GT380 was the Sebring, but I just can't think what the GT550 was called.

BSA names were the best - Silver Stars,Gold Stars,Thunderbolts and Lightnings (very very frightning) Galileo,Galileo Figaro magnifico....oopps,sorry,got kinda carried away there....Hornets,Spitfires,Goldflash and Super Rockets.Hot damn, don't they sound good?!! Then how come the B31 was just a B31?

The GT550 was called the "Indy". The names were mainly for the US market. I had a T500 and loved it.

The Gt550 was officially the Indianapolis, but almost always Indy. All racetracks, but the names were only commonly used in the US.

Velocette had two good ones, Velo Venom and Velo Viper.

Always lusted after a TS400 Apache! Wanted to turn one into a street bike! If I had it would have been an early supermoto, eh? Ah, the '70's...!

Aaah yes. My first bike was a Stinger. T125, two stroke twin. Damned clever in some ways. With the engine hanging off the bottom of the frame and the cylinders almost parallel to the ground cooling was reasonable, and decokes, etc were a breeze.

Was a damn sight quicker than my mates SL125 too!
