    Laptop exploded

Last night I was syncing my phone with my laptop and the bloody thing went bang and filled the room with smoke. The smoke was coming out of the fan and the thing just died

Any techies here have any idea what might have happened? It is only a 3 month old Toshiba M50

Of course I will be taking it back to where I got it from......bugger can't delete porn now

If its only 3 months old, it will be under warranty still. The parts anyway.
FINE. This is the word women use to end an argument when they are right and you need to shut up.

    Cool

Take it back and demand a brand new replacement...
Dont except it when they say to you that it needs to be fixed...

Quote the consumers act etc... then if no luck... tell them all about "Fair Go"

They will send it back to the manufacturers... but you are entitled to a brand new replacement or another comp to the value of the now broken one (Value of it when it was new)

    You want a new one.

Dont worry about the 'porn' on the harddrive they are used to that stuff....lol.

Was the smoke 'pouring' out of the fan? If the fan died, the smoke would only kinda 'dribble' out as the fan wouldnt be working. Fans tend to make a bit of noise before dying too.

Settle down woman! If you go around jumping up and down like an impotent maniac, quoting legalese and threatening people with "Fair go" everywhere you travel in life, I'd make a point of checking all my food for big snotty goobers.
Also, the word is "accept". Pffft, what an attitude...

Sounds like a power supply thing, but if it goes "BANG" there's every chance it sent a power spike around a number of circuits that don't like power spikes (let's face it - who does) and it possibly took something else substantial with it (i.t. motherboard, memory cards, hard drive etc etc etc).

As a result you could experience multiple failures, either all right now, or possibly one now, one a bit later... one after that etc. It'll be a pain, unpredictable and you will lose data all over the show (1/2 way through something and your notebook died - that piece of work is a GONE burger)

Take it back to them, request a complete replacement (or the same model - you can't expect an upgrade... but don't rule it out if they offer one of course).

Go back and ask them nicely that you would like a replacement. If they say they will fix it, tell them you cannot wait because of something (make up an excuse) speak to a manager as usually they are the most helpful and know that if they do something wrong, they have the ways and means to hide it.

Hmmm, so the laptop went pop did it? Couldn't handle the high class porn me thinks, LOL

I dont think it would be a Fan.. they dont normally go 'bang' though capacitor's, resistors normally do. Take it back to where you purchased the device from.. If you want the data that was on the laptop then also request that you want the data on the hard-drive as well (they maybe able to recover it for you - though not the pron). If it was a new purchase, then its covered.

    Good luck.

You going to really enjoy it when you take it in and they say it was caused by a power surge and is not covered by warranty.
