HELP! my gn is running lean...

...and i'm talking really lean! I just changed the spark plug and it was pure white. White as in flour white!

So yeah whereabouts would i find the mixture screw on my 1984 gn? I'm buggered if i can find it (I don't know what to look for so was hoping for divine intervention when i had a gander at the carb) and was hoping some of you nice people would be able to help me out.

I think the mixture is adjusted through changing the needle height in the carb.

I've got an 86 GN. It wasn't starting and we thought it might be running lean. Fixed it by draining the float bowl and flushing the crap out of it. Easy to do just take out the 10m bolt on the bottom of the carb. Started first time after this.

I think the mixture screw has a casting over it to stop dumbass yanks from adjusting the mixture screw

Take it to the shop... or you'll spend a whole week getting it right.

undo the clamp where the carby joins the intake

theres a little notch in the intake pipe where part of the carb goes into....if your looking from right hand side of bike....slide the carby out of the manifold far enough that the bump on the carb is out of the notch so you can turn the carby...

the mixture adjust screw is on the top of the carby. on the intake side

so just turn the carb 90 degrees to the side so you can get at the screw

turn it all the way in but not too tight or you will wreck the needle and count how many turns it was it should be about 1.5 - 2.0 turns... but 1.5 seemed to work fine on mine.

if it's already at that setting , since youve basically already got the carby off just yank it right off and clean it out. or take it off and take it to a mechanic and say clean it if you don't know how...will save you a little bit because the mechanic doesn't have to take it off and put it back on.

    Hope that helps you mate

    Cheers: MA

Flood it, let the carbs overflow out the over flow and get it to back fire. Preferably outside, eh Mark...

Oh yea, thats with kawasakis, my bad...

Cheers guys. I flushed out the float bowl and cleaned out the inline fuel filter and that seemed to work a treat. Definately running alot better now. When i finally get a weekend to myself i will endevour to check the mixture screw itself.
