80kph speed limit at Linton (Manawatu)

For anyone passing through Linton on the back road to Palmerston North, please note the speed limit past the turn-off to the army camp and petrol station is now 80 and not 100. It's always amazed me that it has been 100 but there has been no publicity (that I know of) about the reduced speed limit.

I travel that road every day and I'm pretty sure the signs weren't up yesterday morning, but they were there when we went to PN last night, so just be aware the speed limit is now 80 from about 300m south of the intersection to the bottom of the bridge just north of there.

And don't take the shortcut to the right a couple of k's north... unless you've got knobbly's. Fecking roadworks like a quarry/moto-x track.

Yeah, Old West Road looks like something out of the old west at present! Traffic lights, mud, gravel, looks more like a quarry than a road. I'd advise anyone heading north via the gorge to go into Palmerston North and head out through Aoukatere instead. The Opiki Road has roadworks from the turn-off until the first corner (PN end) and it's down to 30kph with quite loose gravel in places. You can avoid it by heading south and turning back into Alve Road which brings you out at the end of the road works.

What annoys me is the lack of publicity about these changes to speed restrictions. That road is one that carries a lot of traffic so you'd think for a few months they'd put up signs saying "altered speed limit" to alert drivers. I only noticed the 80kph signs the other night because my husband was driving.

Also watch out when heading along Roberts Line and turning into Fernlea Avenue in PN - especially at night - as they are building a roundabout and it's covered in deep loose gravel - with an upturned manhole cover thrown in for good measure!

Easier to put a Mitsi van with tinted windows and a camera 20 metres past the new sign. That should soon pay for all those local roadworks.

80kph through linton is a bit harsh, i've never had any problems doing 100+ through there...
