Stone on DVD

I see the movie 'Stone' is out on DVD.
It's dated as, was quite hokey in parts to begin with, but still has some killer bike action on big old Z1's and a commando.

It was also a milestone in the development of aussie cinema. first time the dark side (of anything) was acknowledged.

Back in it's day we were amazed by the bike stunts and it seemed hard core.
now it's just a good laugh and a groan.

Bit of history there ! 5 of us from the Hutt Valley had a house together in Sydney in 69. Craig Brown was on the Z1 and Brian Martin on the Commando. Those two guys were way ahead of their time . They started doing wheelies on 80cc Yamahas in the mid sixties. it just wasn't done in those days. Craig rode to Amaroo park , raced the 6 hour and rode home . He won it but they cocked up the lap scoring !!! and gave him second. Brian was unlimited motocross champ before the days of Mr Motocross. We had the very first Mach 3's , CB750 Hondas, and T500 Titans . G.

It didn't go down too well over here with the biker scene - they didn't ride Jap bikes in gangs here,they thought it was a joke.

Bit dorky in that clip - a bike gang sounding like a wasps nest....and those yellow front number plates!!!

Must of been an interesting household. Some cultural diffences between Upper Hut and Sydney in those days? - nightclubs eg. Not as wide a ditch nowdays.

The riding in the movie made it - the rest we knew was bogus.

I was 19 and on the streets around Hurstville with a Dunstall kitted and quite well worked XS1100 by 1976. In those days we all knew the Ghosties would kick a jap bike over in the pub carpark if they got lubricated enough.

They can't rescind the plate laws - they have already acknowledged they are unsafe. It will be stickers or something.

complete with surfboards on the roof and drivers in baggies, who would challenge you to a race, then pull you over.....bastards!

Like you said, wheelies on big road bikes were unheard of when that came out. That clip brings back memories. Couldn't believe my eyes when I first saw the stand up wheelie and it wasn't a dirk bike? Bloody amazing stuff in it's day. And a Commando doing wheelies! We would have blamed that on special effects - if special effects had been invented!
Might have to get it out on a wet day. Oh great, lots of them coming up.

I have both Stone and Easy Rider on DVD love them , a trip back in time, remeber going to the movies when they first came out, dreamed about owning a chopper cuzin around a good way to pickup girls yeh thats the life, never happened. then when Stone came out well I wanted a Z1-900 didn't like the fairings on them at the time, was still a good movie the start of the movie were it shows the guy getting on his bike starts her up big burnout as he takes of then up on one that was cool, only to loose his head down the road,oh well thats movies for yah. for there time great movies.

Yep, we were wide eyed young fellas for a while. The Hells Angels were a lot older than us , some in their forties and fifties . There was a big shoot out between gangs around that time in a car park somewhere Milpara or some name like that ? several died. G.

The fathers day massacre at the Milperra Pub. the Comancheros and the Bandidos.
We were actually going to go to the swap meet where it occured. 5 of the boys met at my place and we decided to go for a ride through National Park instead. Good decision.
The blokes who went away are all getting out of jail recently.
