Forestry Rd comes out just before Waitoki, you probably went back on that one.Ireland Rd comes off Forestry Rd and comes out on Blackridge Rd a little further on than Forestry Rd.Foresty Rd actualy comes out by the sawmill close to Riverhead. There used to be roads all over the place in there, but they have blocked them all off so all we have now is Ararimu,Forestry and Blackridge.

Yes. My map shows all the "old" roads , but not which are blocked. Which makes it tricky. There used to be settlements in there, too. The legality of those blockages is far from established.

How are they blocked? I mean if one was to not see the blockage and ride around/over it?

There's gates blocking some of the old roads. I'd imagine they'd be no match for a cunning motorcyclist though.

And ditches and nasty things like tank traps along the sides. Occasionally, just occasionally, they forget to close a gate .

The gates are chained. of course, if someone cut the chains with a BLOODY BIG BOLTCUTTER

But a trap for dumb ones like me...almost.I used to go in at the top of the hill, there was a ditch dug with a mound to stop bikes, but hey,not a biggy to get over.So one day I'm up there on the XT,ready to give it a bit of throttle to jump the mound and fly over the ditch...but a 6th sense started to ring the bells,it just looked ''different''.So I stopped and checked it out - the mound was a little higher and clean, with no tracks on it,standing on the top looking over they had made a huge ditch,it would of just swallowed a bike, once the front wheel cleared the top there would be now way to stop.Bloody dangerous.I reckon you could get in at Drury Lane, but a sign says a camera is looking. When they fell an area you can ride straight off the road into it,but it's real messy then and you could damage your bike or body easily.

tank traps ?? what/who are they so afraid of or are the roads now on private prop?

pretty sure a dt230 could jump a gate, just make a light weight jump to put on the pack rack!
