    Definitely a thumper then.
    I suggest an older Jap trailie like an XL or TT. There should be tons of cheap second-hand bits about.
    You can lift the motor in and out yourself and work on it in the kitchen if it gets too cold in the shed.
    All the essential four-stroke bits are there but there are only one of everything.
    The electrics are nice and easy to get to grips with.

    These days, if you were so inclined, you could Super Motard it!!!!
