    A TV Bike Show

I think NZ on Air needs to fund a motorcycle show.
It could promote the motorcycle "seen" in a different light, I guess?
Sorta like that performance car show on sundays.

You could have ole WT hosting the show with regular guess spots of mates talking about bikes.. Heh

I reckon it would be a bloody good show

I think its a great idea!!!

Hmmm though, I haven't see a good idea on tv in a long time and definately not in something that was made in NZ. (the only tvshow I like at the moment is House and that only because the character House, must be the only person I've ever seen who's as cynical and realistic as me most of the time)

So I don't know about the likelyhood of it becomming reality but hell, it's a great idea.
I have deep pockets. It's just that it's a deep empty pocket...........

I've watched TV on Sundays as well (Bike in bits and I'm poor) and thought about it too. That Performance Car TV show is mainly strung together by that Performance Car (PAH!!!!!!!!! THEY ARE NOT PERFORMANCE CARS!! THEY ARE PENIS COMPENSATORS!!! But I digress...) magazine. So their journalists (...) are already at the events (Drifting, drags, whatever) already covering it, so they bring along some cameras. Also there is a bigger industry spending money on cars. Seems part of the 'performance car' mentality involves spending money on your ride, rather than having the skill to use it properly. The stereotype asian student with lots of money. The westie with debt up to his ears and a habit of five finger discounts.

So yeah, my point is, there is more money and interest in a show like Performance Car TV than there is in "Talking shit about bikes".

But is 'Performance Car TV' funded by NZ On Air? TVNZ? Prime (It played there first) I doubt it. Like 'Back of the Y' it is probably exactly what it appears, folks with DV cams making a TV show about what they find interesting.

Mind you, I have this 'build it and they will come' thought nagging in the back of my mind whenever I think about it. I've put some thought into it. Also, you'll note on TV3 today at 5:30 they had a show on about mud-plugging in 4WDs, which was quite cool to watch as you were waiting for it to roll over. Which they did. At low speed. So fun for all the family. But, the mud-plugging would be much less popular than motorcycles. So there is hope for us..

Anyway, if someone gave me a camera and a microphone, I'd do something. Chicken and egg situation. Always been interested in creating that sort of content.

    I am rambling.

Any idea is a good idea, all you gotta do is find a way to make it happen.
Finn is not going to make it happen, he is right but only from his perspective.
I have no idea how you should proceed but I think you should keep going.
So, where to from here? Have you got any contacts in NZ on air?
Beemer might be able to give you a lead, she is very resourceful!
IT is a good idea, make it happen. Cheers, John.

I would want to do a Scrapheap Challenge - send us into bike wreckers and we all make a bike out of scrap and ride it from Cape Reinga to Bluff. That's my kind of thing....

Having a show about bikes could be potentially dangerous. Do we really want the PC crowd to find out things like:
    • Modern sportsbikes can get close to 320km/hr
    • They can get to 100km/hr in 3-4 seconds
    • This is quicker than 99% of cars on our roads
    • These bikes are readily available, costing as little as $12,000
    • Kids aged 18 can and are buying these bikes
    • They are on a road near YOU

Most of the general public don't quite comprehend the performance of a modern sports bike. They would shit themselves if they found out and there would be calls to ban or restrict bikes etc etc etc. Campbell would do a piece, then legislation would be passed to increase registration to deter people from riding these dangerous machines.......

    Don't do it!!!!

Depends if you want to show off or not - but I guess there are a lot of exibitionists out there....they are not that far removed from Boi Racers, just 2 less wheels.Motorcycle enthusiasts might be harder to find...
