Once I was headed to wellington from chch, and there was a routine stop at the top of a hill, not far from picton. I forget exactly where, but it was getting close.

I thought that too, until I went to a party with a mate on our bikes. I'm normally pretty good at noticing if people are drunk but my mate held it together well until we left. crossed over a few times but never seen a full on breath test road block thingie like they do in Wellington.
However, believe it or not, the local HP do get familiar with the ferry schedule... So really, speeding, or other stupid behaviour on the Picton to Blenhiem road straight off the ferry is just plain asking for it...
