To let pass or not to let pass ??

The weekend just gone, Cycosis and I were "cruising" over Paekak Hill Racetrack, and encountered two bikes (sports tourers) who were going at a moderate pace, exceeding the speed limit (100kms) in places...ooooooo...anyway, we came up behind them at a fairly rapid pace, and I expected them to get out of the way as they were obviously holding us up (for about a km.) Got to one of the longer straights and they both nailed it - cycosis shot past and I would not have been able to get past both, so overtook one and was content to slot in behind the leader and pick him off later. Anyway, he saw me overtaking and started slowing, reducing the gap I was going to fit into so I could'nt slot in as expected and ended up going past him as well, but the straight was ending rather quickly and for a millisecond I thought things might get ugly.

Now, when Im in that situation, and I think Im holding someone up, I pull over and let the faster man (or woman) through. My ego can handle it.

They could have been on beemer's, which would explain to me their arrogance, (some not all-wouldn't want to generalise ) but what do you do in that situation. Pull over or hold them up ?

Yes I know Im a hoon, but they were also speeding so WTF.

And if they are on this forum and can recall the day

Pull over and let them through. Last thing I need is someone trying to bust a move past me, have them screw it up and take me out as well.

Like you my ego can handle it.

Yep, I was happy to slot in behind the front guy, but then he decides to slow down leaving no gap. No option but to carry on. If they had just let us thorugh earlier......

    What a couple of dicks.

I even let a couple of cars pass me coming home from Hamilton one night when it bucketed down so hard just out of Otaki I couldn't see more than 20 metres in front of me. I just pulled over and crawled the next 10 minutes until I got into the BP at Otaki and waited the worst of the weather out.

Ya gotta wonder what the guy was thinking --either it was stuff you you idiot -riding so darn fast. I hope he made a simple mistake -like he slowed thinking ohh shit he aint gonna make it if I keep up this pace

Yeah, I always let the faster riders through. If you don't it is a.) going to piss them off and b.) if you try to make a gap on them and go beyond your limits, you could bin it. Common sense needs to prevail, if someone is dead on your arse for a few corners, then they are faster than you, so let them through.

I have been held up by some slower riders before that wouldn't let me past, but there isn't anything I can do. The CBR doesn't quite have the power to squirt past in a flash.

I never ride to the riders behind me......if they want to pass they need to make it happen and i will presume they will do so safely.....i will just keep my line...

same goes when i pass....just please don't do anything suddenly - and i will pass safely.

Likewise (well more on the track) i will hold my line and if they want to pass me, i will hold my line and not do anything stupid or sudden...... but if i can on the straight parts ill pull over to the left so they dont need to cross the centre line when passing me.......

I always hold my line,If some one comes up behind me fast I just asume they know what their doing and will pass me in their own time.
I certainly will not try to stop them from passing in any way or hold them back but if they want to pass that's on them not me.
It's not as if I hog the road so any bike should be able to go around me without a problem.
It sounds like the guy in front was trying to slow for you and cocked it up.
He might be sitting at home right now talking about he slowed for you and you nearly hit him.
    :spudwhat: Who knows??

Good rules to live by regardless of how many wheels you ride, yet so many fools out there have to spoil it...

Hold your line. Ride/Drive consistent (ie don't freakin speed up on the passing sections!)
