    It certainly does work.
It's an old trick from enduro days.
Petrol and water don't mix, whereas meths will mix with both.
The meths combines with the water and (provided there is not too much water) is basically used as fuel...

best ya pul ya tank off and empty it out then remove the fuel tap and shake out the water that will be sitting in little bubbles in the bottom. -THEN shine a torch down in there and you'll see still more water bubbles.shake them out as well. Whilst ya at it you should drain ya carb as well
Dunno what it is about the fxr--seems to be a common problem with em

Yeah I had the tank off yesterday, but regrettably I didn't check for more water with a torch. I ran it for a few minutes once the gas was back in on the reserve setting and sloshed it around a bit to make sure it wasnt going to die again. Might just throw a bit of meths in for good measure though.

Haven't had this problem myself. Heard about this problem years ago and I think it has something to do with the cap, air breather or drain hole around the cap ...

So a cup of meths on a full tank will help get rid of any water which might be present. Shall try and give it a next time it needs more go-go juice.
90% of the time spent writing this post was spent thinking of something witty to say. It may have been wasted.
