    grease up towbar balls?

just had a tow bar fitted to the car (of all the cars I've had, I've never had a towbar!), so it's all nice and shiny and not scratched or rusted up.. cos i haven't used it yet (despite me not being allowed to rent a trailer and go for a cruise).

Anyway, as a kid, I remember a neighbour greasing up their towbar ball, and sticking a cut-up tennis ball on it to protect it. Is it beneficial to stick grease on it? I can see the logic, but would a heavy trailer really sit on the grease or just cut thru it onto the ball?

or am i just talkin crap?

It's a tow bar dude... not some kinda of fashion statement.

If you're that worried then you need a spoiler on the boot and some spinners on your wheels...

Sometimes I'll squirt a bit of penetrating oil on the coupling and ball, just to keep things nice....but nothing is needed at all.The tennis ball is pretty retro - I thought you were kinda a contempory guy.....??

lol.. they gave me a nice 'chrome' cap for it.. doesn't look bad actually.
I just thought some grease would smooth the twisting motions, and quiet any buffeting it might do.. k, may be not then..
the thing could be a rusted one already for all I care, that's what covers are for, I was just thinking of the noise and the friction

Wasnt the tennis ball to protect from the weather. I bloody hate smashing my shins on those stupid tow bars. The chrome will get munted the first time you use it so dont worry about lube.

And the warming gel is like putting a diluted deap heat on your trailer ball, just incase you sprain it on the job.

Um, I lightly grease my balls (tow) from time to time, figure any metal on metal should benefit from lubrication.
