    Quote to tune PC3

Rang up AMPS just now to ask how much it would be to tune my PC3 on their dyno, as the fuelling is a bit shite, and kinda snatchy coming back in to the gas.

Dude on the phone was really nice. Thing is though, he reckoned about 4-5 hours, and $400-$500 to get a custom map made. This to me seemed a bit excessive, since when I've asked on here previously most people reckoned a couple of hours, and $200-$300.

Is he just being safe in making this quote? Or trying to rob me? He did seem like a good dude on the phone, so I doubt the latter, but I've never heard from any one or any magazine that such an activity would take this long (and they've got the proper Dynojet dyno too), so am a little confused.

    Cheers.

Sounds about right. Gary at GP motorcycles charged me about $500.00 for my gixxer. It's not a five minute job to do it properly. If the guys at AMPS are as good as Gary, you will find it was $500.00 well spent

the estimate I got was $1000 give or take to supply and install PC3 which breaks down to $600 odd for the unit and "about" $400 for the tune.

bank on $500 and if its cheaper, buy them some beer!

I think I paid $100 for a base run to identify if there was a problem.
    There was.
A later visit for the custom map cost another $300.
The Service Manager (Greg? I have his card but it's at work, is a nice guy in my albeit limited experience.)

I was happy with the job they did and the price too I guess...

Dave at AMPS did the '750Y' on a PCII a few years back. it was around $330 from memory. he was ok, the throttle was smooth afterward. ask them if it includes ignition mapping. i lost 10k top end(pukekohe back straight) but the bike was well mannered. my mate told me it's cos they stuffed up the ram air compensation adjustment. have fun 8-)

It took most of a day to dyno and set up the carbs on my Bandit, so that doesn't sound bad for injection.
It's like everything, do you want a proper job or half a job?
Make sure Gav or Dave do it.

    Meh.
    Where's the TrueKiwiPioneeringSpirit(TM)?
Back in the day, when I had a PCIIIIII on my bike, I loaded a couple of maps (not at the samer time, y'understand) from the Interdweeb, and feedled them until they were good.
    Cost?

    Not 12 meeelions.
    Not $500 dollarbux.

    Zero. Nada. Nusseeeenk.

And how did it go? Who the hell cares! it was free, it went better'n stock, and I had a lot of fun doing it. Oh, the satisfaction! The feeling of accomplishment!

Stop worrying about it! Stop being a wimp! Stop wasting money and do it your self. The $500 you save is nearly half way to a better rear shock, y'know.
    ... and that's what I think.

    Or summat.

    Or maybe not...

    Dunno really....

    Yep it aint cheap,

WMCC charged me $575.00 to dyno my Wideglide after I put on a new 2:1 pipe.It was worth it to get the bike running right and after listening to the mechanic explaining my bikes Dyno charts and the adjustments he had made I appreciated that there is alot more to the process than you would think.

also gives you piece of mind as to how she's running. If your making engine mods etc its worth doing to get the most out of what you,ve done.

Cheers for that mate, I'll ask about the ignition mapping. I'm guessing with the amount of time they spend, it should be included.

I might well have a go if I get some time Viff, but really, don't expect it to be half as good as a pro on a dyno can get it to, especially in terms of smoothing the throttle application, which right now is a bit average. Just for the experience though, I probably will (and 'cos it will give me something to do while I'm trying to save money by not riding for a short while).

As far as price goes, it seems the quote was realistic, guess I'll just have to stump when the time comes.

    Thanks for the advice everyone.

And both of those are cheaper than any price I've ever seen for an Ohlins in NZ.
