    Fog lights do not work

Can not find the post but someone posted that fog lights do not work. Sort of got my curiosity aroused so did a little searching.
http://www.gi.alaska.edu/ScienceForum/ASF5/593.html. Just a short article on this subject but well worth reading. If you have fog lights take care.

Yes,although we class nearly all extra lamps on a car as fog lamps 95% of them really aren't.Unless they are set really low and working on dip only then they are no use in fog at all.Set up high on the bull bar or on high beam is totaly useless,as for yellow - it just cuts the available light.Usualy they just have a yellow plastic cap over the globe - dumb huh,but hey - it looks cool.

funny you should say that though--I have fond memories of my XJ750
You know the one with the yellow fog lamp under the headlight.
The foglight on that was bloody brilliant - many a ride next to the waikato at night was a lot nicer with it fitted
That said I think a lot of it comes down to lens desighn and shape

This isn't really on topic, but I REALLY hate those wankers who drive around with their headlights and driving/fog lights on at the same time. What's up with that?!? The only thing I can think of is that they're saying, "Look at me! I've got these driving lights on my car!! My penis is very big! Aren't you impressed!?!"

    No.

    It's feckin annoying.

Look, morons - I've got two Peugeots, both with driving lights. Yes, they make the road light up nicely, but so what? I can see without them on, and it doesn't annoy other road users. (In fact, on the 205GTi, they only come on when the headlights are on full.)

In any case - isn't this supposed to be illegal? Aren't they only supposed to operate or be used when the lights are NOT on low beam?

Ahhhh.... that's better. Still won't stop these f*%$ers annoying the hell out of me, but at least I've had my say.
    ... and that's what I think.

    Or summat.

    Or maybe not...

    Dunno really....

    Fog lights do not work

Try looking in the Land Transport Act and see what the law says about what lights you may/may not have on at any particultar time, SEEMS simple until you try and find out what constitutes a fog light, a spot light, a driving light or an auxiliary light

Maybe someone with more nous than I have can explain it -in a simple manner

Yeah, I'm pretty sure it means only one pair of lights on in built up areas (towns & cities) and two pairs permitted only on high beam on unlit roads.

I hope not to get too involved in this topic,it's what I do for a living - they change the rules every 3rd week - making illegal this week what was legal last week, and what was legal last week illeagal...I dare not look in my book cause I know I will be proved wrong with next weeks rule changes.

My under standing of fog lights is this.

They are not so much, for you to see better.
They are so other people, can see you.
Or at least your head lights.
Feel the fear and do it anyway

On the bike I ride with my headlights on. Ok then last xmas I had 2 near acco's in my Navara.... so I decided to drive the open rd with my lights on cos the car with lights on will be seen before the car without right? makes sence thats why we dod it on the bike, anyway I found that a lot of people were flashing at me as to say 'your head lights are on'......... well "DOE" I know I turned them on (thick bastards)

So I went out and brought a pair of 'fog lights' as these do not have to be wired into the high beam like 'driving/spots' lights do. Now the fog lights are bloody bright but dont blind other cars cos thay are a consntrated light beam were as the spotie or head light shines every were.

Although as a fog light they are proberly not much good but as a day time driving light they are bloody great other cars do notice you comming up behind as a lot more tend to move over (as this is one 4x4 that dosent wast any time) so there for I must be a lot easier to see for those cars about to pull out in frount of me
    cheers DD

Not quite... a Haiku is a 17-syllable verse form consisting of three metrical units of 5, 7, and 5 syllables. It's easier to write Limerick form...

You and me both dude --Ya know the twist to the "law " I cant figure out is that I have to remove no ncompliant glass--indicators, spotlights etc yet once the bloody things have their first WOF it no longer matters

As I understand it a true foglight has a totally different lens desighn and is intendes to give a diffused light rather than afocussed beam like in a headlight

I had factory fog lights on a 325 Beemer a few years ago. They did work, when headlights just gave you a good view of fog, these things gave an extra 30 metres view of the road.
