    PC required...

Short story.. Number 3 daughter needs a student PC. Not going to be used for gaming or anything radical. Notebook, laptop, desktop – don’t care, just need a good unit for email, MS Office (already got that) and maybe a bit of digital photo printing etc etc. We want new but don’t want the warehouse stationary 800mhz processor dealie.

Need a CD burner and USB ports for memory sticks. Prefer 17” LCD

Ideally like 24 month warranty, anything else is a bonus.

Now I can buy this through work and get a deal but if there are any retail / IT geeks out there in KB land I’ll give you a chance at an easy sale.

    Cheers

    Paul N

Actually, those warehouse dells are pretty good value for money. Just double the ram in them. They are still totally basic, but today 'basic' is more than enough.

Funny, someone came to me and my workmate today in nearly the same boat and asked is this any good? I thought it was pretty stunning for $1200. Maybe more than you wanted to spend though. And before someone bags el-cheapo Acer; One of my old bosses had two Acer laptops and was happy with them, then said "I wanna move up in the world" bought an IBM lappy, had tonnes of problems and went out got himself another Acer. Happy again on Acer Number 3.

If you've got a PB Technologies near you, go see them, and see what they can whip up?

What Warehouse Stationary and The Warehouse are selling are two different systems.
The Warehouse still sell the cheap Dell
$899 2.8 GHz 17" monitor and a limited offer of some logitech bundled stuff worth $100

    All true...

But - it only has to last a couple of years and like all laptops, there are good uns and bad uns and the opinions are spread evenly over every brand and type. The research we did indicates the acers are now acceptable and she got a deal so... she is happy

Not only that but IBM wont stand by them. Had a spate of them going kaput just out of warranty and IBM washing their hands of them.

Commerce commission said that because they were business use the consumer guarantee act would not apply.
