Over the Kaimais to the Okoroire Pub for starters on the road bike! If you're happy to travelon the boring stretch from Papamoa towards Whakatane, hook down towards the Matahina Dam through to Murapara - sensational road with nice fire breaks down the side of the forest.

There is a place around Manawahe (inland from Matata) called Ywari or something, often advertised in Kiwi Rider. I haven't been there...
Otherwise I don't know of anywhere in these parts. Most of my dirt riding has been in trails off the Kopu-Hikuai road.

Have you heard of Maddix park?
I went there for the first time not so long ago and was really impressed.
There is quite a long motocross track, which is not too hard for the average rider, and i think its groomed weekly. There are also two bush trails, one of about 2km and I think the other one is about 11km. It can get a bit hard if theres been a lot of rain.
I think its open during the week and weekends and costs about $20.

Its on Rowe road which is somewhere near the welcome bay roundabout? im not too sure about exact details or directions (I went with a mate who knew the way) but I think if you search for it on the internet you will find details. Maybe on silverbullet.co.nz

From Welcome bay roundaroundaroundabout, turn into Oauiti rd (by Palmers) and follow your beak for a few k's to Rowe road.

I have a feeling that it is Robbie Dean's place.

Try the top end of Pyes Pa road or Thompson Track but watch for the deep holes on the coast side of the track. Once you get past the holes in the fist few k's then it is a great ride over to the Waikato. Black Hill in Waihi is another track and Ywari is now closed for the winter but it is great when open.
