I guess you'd have to buy the BMW cause it's slower, costs more to buy, old tec', cost more to service...etc...I think I'd rather have the 14 and then with the change buy a motard for round town.

BMW motorcycles are just like the cars...Over rated and over priced. Though I have had some good rides on Beemers and don't dislike them I just find the Jappers to be far more superior.

Enough about BMW's blablab . ZX14 has just been out for less than 6 months & not to sure on the Busha about 8 + years & has held its own with out much change apart from colours which to me Says alot ! Its taken everyone else this long to catch up & get in front LOL . I would be very suprised that Suzuki hasn't already got their new Beast sitting behind the curtain .

Rumour and sneak pics of mockups suggest it's a six cylinder! Would sound awesome, but even a freshen-up of the current model would keep it ahead.

I agree that the Busa has stood the test of time... but I'm guessing that's a lack of trying on the part of the competition. The Busa is a pretty low tech beast, it's a brutal hammer more than a sharpe blade... but that's part of it's charm of course. I suspect the fight for hypersport dominance has pulled resources away from the fight for the absolute fastest hypertourer as much as taking a long time to catch up. In other words, they didn't catch up because they weren't trying (too busy building ZX10Rs, GSXR1000s, 636s, R6s etc etc. And well why not! The Busa and ZX12R are thoroughly effective tools. They don't need to be cutting edge, and they still sell well!

/edit: And I suspect due to the nature of the best (not needing a revision every year), the next Busa will be a thorough remake, and will soldier on for many years too (cause do we really need a new Busa every two years like they do in the hypersports class??)

You're quite correct my dear Watson! Everyone's putting a lot of resources into the litre/600 classes as that's where the money and fierce competition is!

I believe that any Top Japanese brand name has only a couple of things it wants . To have the out right Fastest bike on the Road & the Best Track/Road bike as well . If not then there would be no ZX14 or Hayabusa's & no SBK or Moto-GP

Yeah, Kawasaki has always wanted 'most powerful in class' and 'fastest bike in the world'. I think if it wasn't for their sustained effort in the hypersports class, Kawasaki would have taken the title from the Busa long ago. Didn't Suzuki build the Busa originally (in part) to poke the borax at Honda (the whole Hayabusa, Japanese Peregrine that eats Blackbirds) They probably ltao at how long the Busa has lasted anyway

So did Honda get the joke? And did Kawasaki miss the point with the ZX12R? SUzuki's been laughing all the way to the bank since launching the 'Busa in '99!

The ZX12 is an unusual bike... I've never ridden one, but all the tests I've read seem to rate it... except for the thorn in the side that is the Busa. Lovely looking bike, the first time I saw one in the flesh was at the Ruapuna drags. This thing made no noise, no burnout, nothing interesting at all. Except that it took off almost silently, no fuss, and ran a 10 second pass. Bizarrest thing... respect++ though
