Done that route 3 times on a bike. First 2 times it rained like no tomorrow, but I figured that if the guys infront were staying on so could I. Last time was in the dark. Beautiful road in the right conditions !! Best was the first with Tony Rees. We let him go first!!
I remember as a kid living in Gisborne, everytime we went through the gorge we'd get stuck in a mob of cattle that were being 'droved' through there. Guess cattle trucks are cheaper now than paying drovers to herd a hundred head of cattle through there over several days. Used to be a real bugger to come round a corner and see a huge herd of cattle right there and know it would take at least 10 mins to get through it. Then again, being stuck behind a full cattle truck going up a hill isn't much fun either, especially with not many safe places to pass (when in a car anyway).

yeah that road is quite good, reminds me a little bit of the awakino gorge, some parts, that's a nice ride too but not long enough...
