As I have already said, my feeling is that after two tanks I am getting less mileage per tank than I used to, but I'll reserve judgement until after an extended ride.
    My point exactly. Yadda, yadda.

    Shell fuel claims!

We have been paying more attention to our fuel usage in our vehicles for the last couple of years.
The reason being not so much the fuel performance but in order to maximise the (supposed) add on benefits of ,fly buys and cash back on Visa etc.
Being retired we have now got a considerable change in our monthly living costs and income etc so we have been keeping an eye on our financial realities lately.
We live 100km from our nearest service town (Oamaru) and that gives us a long enough run on our vehicles to get a fairly reliable check each time we use them, we also use Shell for the fly byes.
I won't drive the car unless I absolutely have to, that's her department so there is not much driver change.
Oddly enough we had noted that the car seemed to be doing very well on fuel and that was before we ever even had the slightest idea there was any change claimed to the fuel.
The change was noticeable enough for me to start experimenting with the fuels for my bike my bike more for performance than for the cost at that stage.
When you only have 650cc and limited horse power you want as many working for you as possible.
The conclusion I had come to prior to any knowledge of any change to the fuel was that we seemed to be getting slightly better mileage in the car.
I had been complimenting her on her economical driving!
The bike is an unknown quantity because I change fuels too much and am too erratic on how I ride it. Seems to go pretty well on BP98 but shit, $$ hurt.
Well that's just my two pence worth, back to the asylum. Cheers John.

John, it's also winter and combustion engines use less fuel in the cold. Don't go buying her any chocolates yet.

Dopey bugger!! should have come and said hello!!

And my bike with the ignition advanced, and the valve shims worn, pinks like hell, and funnily enough the most stable fuel (ie least pinking) seems to be mobil 98, though I haven't tried gull yet.
Shell 95 econoshit runs worse, but as my riding is variable as anything, I won't blame the BP 98 I used at the track day for getting less than 10 kms per litre.
    I blame the subway lunch.

Nerp. Not in my case anyway. Same old commute, lower mileage on more than one tank. Switched back to 98 and if anything, actually rode it harder and still got better mileage.

Nah Pixie, it's all been commuting and I've done my best NOT to think about what I'm doing, and just ride like I always do.

This last tank of Shell 96 looks like it's not even going to get to 220kms and then I start the BP 96 experiment, followed by the Shell91, BP91, and then BP98 and Mobil 8000 phases of three tanks each.

Good old Jim... taking one for the cause...

Honestly, I only use 98 where possible, usually fill at the same garage all the time so it ain't a hassle... if I'm out on a ride then it'll be whatever 95/96 stuff I can find.

Not sure about the cruiser bikes, but my ZXR400 doesn't like anything less than 96, it'll run on it sure, but doesn't like it at all...

Do you note the colour and bouquet, then swill it in your mouth and spit?
Or just guzzle the whole glass?

I put a couple of drops on sensitive bare skin and note how long it takes to discolour and for the burning, and the blistering, and the unholy screaming to start.
