Okay i have recoreded every fuel recipt since i brought my bike 2+ years ago(28,000kms). for past month i have been fulling up with shell, and no change in fuel milage, commute the same way i always do, (bear in mind i only use 91 in the banana bike)

BP 96 starts today. In about 4 weeks I'll start Shell 91. The variation in tank range is insignificant, but is vastly different to my normal 270kms on whatever 91 I normally chuck in.
The figures are taken from fill up to fuel gauge flashing and are on average about 12% less mileage than normal.

It appears that most BP stations no longer stock the mid range octane level fuels. They are either solely 91, or a mix of 91 and 98. So I did three tanks of BP 91 instead.
I've started Mobil 95 this morning.

I spent a week off work, and consequently did a great deal more mileage, plus I wasn't able to keep accurate records (BP don't put the number of litres purchased on the receipt) , so I've averaged my fuel consumption over the distance travelled, with some educated guesses at fuel amount bought. The first tank of BP91 was all commuting, the 2nd was all Uncle B pace backroads riding, and the third is a mix of touring and commuting. I was expecting the fuel consumption to be worse than the Shell 95 overall, thanks to some injudicious throttle usage.

Good one Jim. As a new Z750 owner it's going to be helpful to use these figures as a bit of a guide. Got my Full licence yesterday, jumped off the 250, went inside made the call to the insurance co, raced back outside and onto the Z for my first spin. Couldn't wipe the grin off my face for about 3 hours! (The 750 has been almost 6 weeks at my place without a ride....biggest test of my patience yet!)

I have used Shell 96 since March 2005, travelled 50,000 kms between Auckland and Hamilton during that time.
In March 2005 I was achieving 800 kms to 70 ltrs, Nissan Maxima, In June 2006, I still achieve 800 kms to 70 ltrs.
Have not changed my driving in that time, use a fuel card and have checked that every month it is the same kms per ltr etc.
Shell fuel economy formula is a crock of $hit.

When did the new fuel come in?? I have all my fuel usage and data from when I got the bike in mid-Jan, so can provide all of that...

I've used them all and my milage always varies, too many variables in riding. Just watch out you know the price before you pump as BP and Mobil don't advertise they sell 98 at a premium price.
I would like to know from someone clever if they think I can run my 1400 Suzuki 06 cruiser on 91 without loss of power etc.

Yes there are variables in riding and driving, but it tends to average out over time. I'd always run mine on 91 until this little voice told me to test out some manufacturer claims, and I have to say the bike runs better on 91 in general, and I think once I've gone through 20 or so tanks of gas it will be apparent that I'm getting better mileage out of any old brand 91, irrespective of magic formulas, spurious claims about the benefits of higher octane fuel, and petrol station colour schemes.

I'm seeing a pattern emerge that has nothing to do with brand, and everything to do with running your bike on the fuel the manufacturer intended.

Better yet: Pass them onto fair go as well.

I have to say I use the BP 98 and it works far better than the Shell would be interesting if you tried Gull they used to have gas from singapore that was far better than the competitors. Does anyone know if they have gone back to the pack.
