    TTR600 TT600R Belgarda

    Hi,
Can anyone out there help me with Any info on the TTR600. I have a 2000 model that is standard and would like to know the following.
If an after market exhaust is added will it need to be rejeted?
What mods can be done to give it more poke?
On another site it suggested disconnecting a wire that retards the ignition but did not say what effect this would have?
So far I have been able to find very little info on the bike so any sites that you know of would also be appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Stay Upright,
    Hostage

Welcome to the forum hostage, A more open pipe should need a slight re-jet, (eg when I put the SXC can on my 640 I went from a 157.5 main to a 160). A change of needle or needle position may also be needed to get the most out of it. What sort of carb does it have? If no one seems to know about a good setup for your bike a dyno tuning session might be the best bet - try out a few different jets & needle settings 'til you get the right power.

The other usual mod to get more power out of a big single is to open up the airbox by removing snorkles & cutting holes in the side, but the TTR may already have a pretty free flowing airbox, take the cover off the airbox if you do a dyno run & see if it makes a difference.

    Cheers

    Thanks for the input Clint.
Have fitted a wileyco muffler and now the power dies off for a second. Will try the carby adjustments on the weekend.
    Best Regards

Gidday Hostage - I've had my 600 4 years now and it just keeps getting better as the k's clock up. The retard wire is under the seat, going into the CDI unit. There's a thread on Thumpertalk that explains better than me what affect disconnecting the wire does. Mine was disconnected at delivery. Just search on TT using ttr600. Watch out for snapping drive chains - the 520 o-ring is only just strong enough for these bikes. Having snapped two I've gone to a DID X-ring and keeping fingers crossed!!

    Thread resurection:

I've been offered a pretty sharp deal on a 2002 TTR600 and am about 95% decided on buying the beast.

Anyone want to try and talk me up to 100% or otherwise?

Long term plan would be to turn it into something like this:

I've got an 01. Great bike, only complaints would be that a. you have to kick it to make it go, b. I had to make my own packframe mounts as they aren't available, c. The stock tank at 9 liters is a pain in the arse for commuting as you only get 180ks to a tank. Fixed that with a 20 l Acerbis unit.
Other than that great bike, huge fun on both tarmac and gravel. If the deal is right and you can cope with the lack of electric start buy it. You might just discover the joys of adventure riding before you do the motard conversion.

Thats a nice looking bike. I would have a go. GTYR has a motard kit for most of the yamaha dirt bikes so go have a look.

    wheels...

    hey spud.
if you are lacing up wheels for the TTR, also consider a 19" front.
i find it a great middle ground between a twitchy little 17" and the 21" standard rim. i've also found a cheap and simple cycle computer install if you're interested.

I'm about 97.5% convinced now, it is a pretty good deal and the bike has only done a genuine 3034 kms so it isn't hard to get the cheque book out, its just that the hand gets a little nervous before signing.

Badcat, whats the computer thingy all about?

Motu, yep - I like old school.

Henk, my last two bikes, VTR & TLS both only got about 180 - 190 ks so thats not really a concern to me. I do intend to do some adventure rides if I get it, the motard thing would have to be done in a way that the bike could be easily converted from one mode to the other.

Spudchucka.. if you only got 190K's out of a TLS then you must have a heavy wrist!haha or ya only ride on your own private road\race track. as the normal range is 230km's out of a 17ltr tank (doing the appropriate speed limit). That I find.

and the computer thing Badcat is talking about is giving you a Speedo etc I would imagine.

I always found the TLS a thirsty beast even when ridden carefully, but then I'm geting on a bit and my memory could be fading too, perhaps it did get a bit more than I suggested, either way I'm not buying another TL so I'm not worried abouts it's k's / ltr.

The TTR has a speedo fitted, lights, indicators, all the road stuff is on there. However it doesn't have a tacho, which doesn't seem like too much of a concern as its a long stroke, low reving torqy thing anyway.
