Jeez I'm turning into a tech toy freak

I've just bought a Garmin Quest GPS unit, a waterproof portable unit so I can use it on the bike and car.
Don't ask me all techy type questions, because I've only had one play with it, but it's uncanny how it tells you to turn just in time to make it.
It got a little confused going across the city, but I'm told tall buildings and frequent turns can catch it out.
Now I need to have a play on the open road.
Do they tell you you've just ridden into a ditch and to pay attention to the road - dickhead?

haha Good stuff Lou Girardin.. what did that set you back?

Make up some or your favourite routes.. does it do average speed on a trip and stuff like that?

It does all sorts, Moving average, total average, time moving. time stopped, total time, speed and max speed.
I can defend speeding tickets now.
Price was a bit of a deal with the importer, but retail is around $1200 with the bike mount kit.

GPS things generally suck in the Urban environment suck as Dorkland due to whats called Multipath where the signal from the Sat gets bounced off all the buildings etc, also in the city you cant see many if any satallites down in the gorges of Queen st etc

GPS road navigation in New Zealand is all a bit hit and miss really. Largely due to the fact that there has never been a proper ordnance survey done of these fair isles.

Artillery lends dignity to what might otherwise be a vulgar brawl.

Yes indeed, however it is a quote read by Leonard Nimoy when you discover the "invention" of Artillery, when playing Sid Meier's Civilisation IV on a PC.

The next quote that Hitcher mentioned is the quote read by Leonard Nimoy when you "discover" satellites.

I gave it a test run on Sat night, we had to meet friends at Delicious in Gay Lynn.
So I find Delicious in the menu, hit 'find route', and 20 mins later we're outside the door.
    Bloody magic.

I've got a built it GPS in the car but prefer to use my own "built-in" navigation system for NZ. That is, if you hit water, you've gone too far.

And if you end up in Gay Lynn, you're lost or cruising.

Using that system, an infallible way to never become lost is just to keep turning right.
