Thats the spirit Jimbo600, After round 2 of the actrix series has been completed, I'll put my 750 back to road trim and come a fine winters day, I'll bring it down to the hill to check out the king of the hill in action, well for a few corners anyways!Originally Posted by jimbo600

Sorry to hear about your accident Jimbo. When I originally scanned the thread I thought you meant that the bike matched the scenery due to its additional cow poo image ,green and brown. Didnt read it properly. The 600 class seems cursed from the number of members whom seem to come off them. I had a close call a few weekends ago in that area with something unseen, perhaps oil, which took me by surprise so its often something you cant do much about. What I wanted to ask since I believe we have a number of Rimatuka experts onsite is this..... Has anyone actually gone off the edge going up the hill northbound? I nearly got blown over one year coming around a bend and the wind was roaring down one of the gullies near the top.
For anyone not familar with this gorge, there are often wind warnings and trucks regularly get tipped over due to severe gusts. Imagine what happens to bike riders if they hit one of those gusts, and its a longggggg way down to the bottom off the side. Glad you are OK. PS ITS BLOODY FREEZING OUTSIDE. Anyone would have to be mad to hit the gorge today.
Then came the day when cages were confined to zoos.. and the bipedals ruled the earth again..Tu@ advt # 666 Return of the beasties
For wind, the northbound Kaitoke side isn't too bad until the last few corners at the top. It's the Wairarapa side that is bad on a windy day.
On the way up or down, on the Rapa side, some of the outside corners the wind can push you around a bit. Have found that a bit of speed will help you 'drive' through the gusts....but you have to be ready for them.
Have been with others that have had close calls due to the wind gusts.

Urgh - stink mate. What a prettty bike for it to happen to as well. You're obviously not too mangled then?

Bah, head fell off - flesh wound!
If your body had fallen off, well that's a different story.
If a man is alone in the woods and there isn't a woke Hollywood around to call him racist, is he still white?
I think a year back some dude on a multistrada did just that. He didn't tumble down the hill very far though. Foliage is pretty good at slowing your decent. I wouldn't want to test the theory however.Originally Posted by Lord Derosso

Jimbo did you do a Casey Stoner??. Nice highside that.
No I lowsided. Far less skillfull and dramatic than a highside.Originally Posted by MAXIMUSDEMERITUS

That's the true measure of the 'hill experts', we always make sure we crash into the hill rather than over the drop!Originally Posted by Lord Derosso
Five years ago I proved that gorse is indeed our friend. Far softer landing than rock. Well I thought so in my leathers and helmet. The 3 Blokes in shorts and jandals that foolishly offered to help me extract my bike weren't pouring praise on the wonders of gorse that I was.
UncleB is right, drive hard through the wind don't slow or it will just bully you around more.
