    Valuation question

Me and my lovely missus are sorting out some insurance matters, and we want to establish the market value of her bike. Its a VTR 250 (which Sarge sold her in the the old days when he was still at the Baron), 2004 about 18000k on the clock.
Can anyone give us an unbiased market value?

    Thanks for your help.

    (No it's not for sale!)

Take it to a couple of Honda dealers and get some valuations in writing. Might cost you $50 or a 24 pack of beer but it will mean a lot more to your insurance company then guesses by us.

Bikepoint has new $7995, 1998 with 2500k $6495 so go somewhere in between.

most shops will give you their opinion for free, they know you will be wanting to spend that insurance cheque somewhere, but that doesn't include Red Baron they suck!

Is it written off? I didn't take that from his post, I thought he was trying to get a value on it for insurance purposes (ie cover value).

On a similar vein to this... what if you are just wanting to sell your bike, will bike shops in auckland buy privately if it's not a trade in? Or will they just give you valuation.

Everything can be bought and sold, for the right money. I've bought vehicles off of the public before, but you'll get hit in the pocket. (I'd pay more possibly if it's a trade-in, otherwise we buy our stock from our regular agents. So no need to buy from the public, because their value of their vehicle is usually quite inflated - 'it's the best in town, etc.)

    Yeh that's true.

Well might just get it valued then to find out what it's actually worth. Doesn't seem to be anything on Bikepoint to compare it with, and TradeMe only has shitters on there anyways so no real comparison.

    Not identical no... but still

It's easy to get a guide price for a 2004 Gixxer or whatever, but harder to find what a 94 ZXR 400 is actually worth.

If it is to set the value for your insurance, it doesn't matter what value you put on it now, teh bastards will revalue it when you make a claim, so if you can, get agreed value rather than market value. If it is because you have written it off, then you will need to get written valuations from independant bike shops

    Clarification time!

The bike isn't written off, and it's sitting warm and dry and happy in the garage.
We need a market value for insurance so that we don't over value it and pay too high a premium, or undervalue it and face extra costs if the unthinkable ever happens.

How much does the premium change depending on the valuation? and also what is the policy value agreed upon or market value?
