Anyone else get out for a ride today?

Well, with the weather being absolutely beautiful, and no lectures today, there wasnt really any other choice other than to go for a ride. So, despite the vague threats of a few showers north of orewa today, I headed up to further my gravel road experience on the (supposedly gravel) roads between Waiwera and Kaukapakapa. Maybe its seasonal, but there wasnt much gravel on the roads today... apart from the bit in the wheeltrack I hit while braking firmly from 110kmh for a 40 (my speed) corner . A bit of a wobble but heaps of traction in the other wheeltrack anyway and I got away without getting up close and personal with an imposing looking bank. I got very good at picking and just avoiding washboards, but I cant count my experience on gravel to be increased much....
Some of these roads are very very thin, one car wide only. Many warning signs about logging trucks to get me almost paranoid, but I only saw 2 cars in the trip across. Can anyone recommend me a few more areas of good gravel roads close to Akl?
Queiro voya todo Europa con mi moto.... pero no tengo suficiente tiempo o dinero.....

I went into town to have lunch with my wife - does that count?

Probably doesn't, as I kept both wheels on the road the whole time...

I wish I'd taken the day off like I'd intended to. (Unlike White Trash, I don't love my job, even if I do get paid mega for spending most of my time on the Internet...)

Yup, the ride to my work was quite nice. wheelied past my residential street. Stoppied right across the road next to the high school and impressed some kids. Overdid a stoppie and fell off infront of some ladies near a cafe. Did some more wheelies, stoppies and finally reached work in about 1/2 an hour. Oh yea, I was riding my MTB btw.

I wish!! Stuck inside with 3 fighting kids and lousy weather outside, on the positive side the water tank is filling up nicely.

If you go up to Kaukapakapa the back way - through Riverhead Forest, turn right at Ararimu rd and go into the forest, keep going and you'll come out on Blackridge rd at Dairy Flat.Turn left down Forestry rd and come out at Waitoki..turn right at Waitoki and proceed to get thougherly lost.Go up SH16 to Tauhoa,at the top of the hill turn left to Port Albert for the best gravel roads on the planet.

Owlmorris knows the roads between Riverhead pub and Kaukapakapa pub best - I'm going to get together with him and Mike one sunday for a bit a fun up there...old bikes welcome.

Wow, even I got out for a ride today. Borrowed my Bro's bike, and zipped around town. Not quite a 'proper' ride, but reminded me why I love riding so much. Those who hate traffic will know what I mean.
I feel 'born again'! Anyone know of a good 600 something for sale?

You do realize you're just asking for a certain Wellingtonian to jump up and down, don't you?

Usual commute today. Normally at 7:15 it's a really pleasant quick run into town with only light traffic but these cold mornings with a hint of frost are not that great. Coming back at 5 pm with clear skies and the last rays of the setting sun would be heaven if the roads weren't clogged with cages.
Glorious weather since Sunday but it won't last to the weekend, will it?
