Any one who listens to or even respects the opinions of a corrupt fat slapper criminal needs a good doc marten to the large intestine via the sphincter.

Get some one who deserves some respect to raise the same point and I will listen and argue rationally. Get this self absorbed heammoriod sucking leech involved and I will cover my ears, rock backwards and forwards saying la-la-la-la-la-la-la before round house kicking her to the head.

In the interests of sintifigologgical intiggidy and wozzaname it must be pointed out that what the Lancet said was

Fourteen per cent of Maori hospital admissions were associated with a health care mistake, compared with 11 per cent of non-Maori admissions, according to a study published today in Britain's Lancet medical journal.

Eight out of 10 of all the "adverse events" occurred in hospitals, the rest in other health care settings like general practice or resthomes. About 1 per cent were considered severe (causing death or long-term disability) and preventable.
ie that maoris got admitted to hospital because of a medico stuff-up more often that non Maoris.

Now shit diet booze fags etc might make a Maori more likely to get sick and go to the doc in the first place, but they would not be more likely to cause said doc to make a ballsup.

And the Lancet said they dunno why that might be.

Just thought the point orrda be noted.

Quite. Though the hairs must be split; do 'adverse events' resulting from patients' non-compliance with a medical program count towards these statistics?

What, read the link and the thread before shooting from the hip.... Bugger....

Well, ok. That is an interesting statistic, and it would be equally interesting to find out what the cause is. That's if there is a cause and it isn't just some standard deviation.

Immediately saying it is racist is neither healthy, rational, nor conducive to solving the problem.

Perhaps it has something to do with the socio-economic and therefore the geographical spread of the Maori population. Perhaps not.

I wouldn't be surprised if there was no statistical difference between the two numbers. You can pretty much make an observational regression say anything you want.

Thats true but people in the industry have noted that bulshit is told to them when the are checking them out. If you smoke 20 smokes aday then tell them, if you drink 4 pints a night then tell them, they aren't their mothers they need the info to diagnose the problem correctly ,not wake up with a pain in the chest in the morning and when you visit the doctor dont tell them.
Thats why some people go straight to private, yea more money but you don't have to deal with people who are fucking you around while blaming everyone else about their problems.

I note your point, but from what I know of the hospital system it is more likely that maori will be non-compliant with treatment and also providing an accurate history - in hospital or not. As stated above, the doctor's not asking about your drug/alcohol/personal habits because they've got the cops/your mama in the next room (although in some cases it is statistically possible that their mama may be in the next room). It's from ignorance. Most people are smart enough to know that doctor's don't do small talk.

One thing that really pisses me off is the fact that it is racism when they aren't getting favours... but when they get everything (scholarships etc) then it is just fine and dandy. That to me is racism!

At uni at the moment we are doing all this stuff about Maori and Pasifika underachievement... they are telling us to change everything in our class to make the minority feel welcome, yet if I was a lil one again and my teacher stood up infront of the class and spoke in Samoan I would be like waaaat!!
They came here for a reason... and if they dont like the way we teach then they should go back to Samoa and learn in a Samoan school

(I have a number of Pasifika and Maori people in my class so I can not really voice this opinion in class! and it drives me up the frickin wall!)
I'm gonna make it so PC

Apparently maori absorb nicotine differently to the white man too?? There was some be-dredlocked twat on the tv the other night wanking on about genetic differences meaning that maori absorb nicotine differently and are therefore more susceptible to addiction. Hmmm.

    WTF??

Apparently Maoris are genetically predisposed to addiction to tobacco.
    And dope.
    And meth.
And stealiing other peoples things and going to jail for it.

BTW. If banning tobacco will stop them smoking, why hasn't it stopped them doing other drugs?
