    I Love LPG Stickers!

They make the mufti cops stand out a mile!

Not all mufti's have one, but nearly EVERY new holden on LPG is a mufti... in my experience anyway.

And you can spot them from behind - so easily.

Very kind of the boys in blue to point themselves out like that I think!

might be a good idea to delete this thread so they don't realise they standout then?

Then THEY would be breaking the law - they gotta have the stickers!!!! (No sticker - no warrtable condition = no car going on the road... naughty naughty!!!!

No warrantable condition = no ability to issue tickets...

Oh I love it when a plan falls apart!

hmmm - didn't know about that omne - cheers...

    what colour is it?

Maybe there's a market for bright orange stickers... kinda like post-it notes.

Mount a pad of them on the inside of your glove and just brush one off on the mufti as you go on by (lane splitting as I am ). That bright orange flash would make 'em stand out a bit - and let's face it, they'd last at least till they got the car back to the cop shop...

...and look for no tow bars... if its got a tow ball, it won't be a mufti (which SERIOUSLY cuts down the number of potential mufti vehicles you could be looking for as most commodores/falcons have them)

How many people have LPG? It's a shame it's all but gone, it seemed to have some real advantages. Or do people who were driving at the height of it's popularity beg to differ?

A good fuel but unless you dedicated a car to run on it you never got the full benefit. LPG was around 100 octane so could handle a more agressive spark advance . Dedicated vehicles would make more HP that thier petrol counterparts. Duel fuel was always a compromise and the extra fuel consumption made savings small.

LPG?? good shit...... I had a CF230 bedie back in the early 90's and it loved the stuff also a 253 Commodore in Oz it cost $17 to fill the V8 tank and ya cant beat that aye.

I've got no idea why it seems to have dissapaired, when it came out and you lot up there were into the CNG there were a lot of folk that thought it was dangerous........ a tank of petrol will puncture before a tank of LPG but ya cant explain that to some. And then there were the stories of big hp loss.... na not if you tuned the engine to gas run it a little rich and its a humming.
Both my cars prefured the LPG and bolloks to having ta run a tank of prtrol to every 2 of LPG
    cheers DD

Knew a guy with a V8 Range Rover that always ran LPG off road.He was a mechanic and tuned it to love the LPG.He swore it pulled better(more torque) on the steep hills and in the mud...Also turbos can run more boost on gas than petrol.
Must be more efficient if the fuzz are using it, now.

About the time LPG was being promoted in NZ there were some high-profile accidents overseas that made NZers a bit wary. I remember seeing some horrific pictures of the results of an LPG tanker overturning and incinerating hundreds of people in a Spanish camping ground. But I think the main reason was economics. Unless you were doing very high mileages it took a long time to recover the cost of conversion.

As for the LPG patrol cars, my experience has been that by the time you get close enough to see the sticker, it's probably too late!

Not ot mention the plethora of aerials attached, the crappy standard wheels and the little lights on the parcel tray. Should be no excuses at all if you get caught by one, seeing as they stand out so nicely.

The two lights on the parcel try are what I always look for when heading into wellington. Saved me from blasting past at least two.

i'm just in the process of converting my telstar to lpg, as i'll be doing 1000km a week soon. got an old impco kit off the old man, replaced the gaskets and tidied it up, 80 litre tank, tested for $100, new hoses $50. all up should cost about $200 fitted. i'll be running it on a dedicated lpg carb. i'm getting 40mpg on petrol now, so it'll be interesting to see what i get out of the lpg - i'm hoping for 50mpg equivalent - saving me about $7 a day. that'll pay for insurance and 2 rear tyres a year on a 'busa.......

    CAUTION

new policy will see all of the north island highway patrol mufti cars working in the same district for a period of time (say 6 weeks) then moving en-masse to the next one. i'm trying to find out where they are at the moment. there are XR6's, Maximas, Mazda 6's, and others.

there will be NO grace given by these guys when they are in your patch.
