    Amazingly good newbie experience

How about this for an excellent first-timer's experience?
    It couldn't get much better.

I bought a gn250 on Trademe on Friday, it was super cheap. Suspiciously so.
Then got my learners license on Monday.
On Tuesday I flew from Wellington to Auckland on a cheap cheap ticket, trusting the seller would go through with the sale.
I picked up the bike, which turned out to be owned and very well maintained by a kindly old Baptist Minister who was also a mechanic.
He happily answered my newbie questions like "um... how do you change gears? Do you put in just petrol, or mix it with oil or something?"
I had never ridden a geared bike before, just scooters.
Then I spent two blissful days learning what buttons did what and how to ride proper-like, as I cruised in perfect sunny weather through the North Island back to Wellington.
Finally yesterday I renewed the Wof, with no work needed.

Talk about lucky! It could have gone terribly wrong at many points. The bike coulda been shit, I shouldn't have bought it without seeing it.
I could have had a terrible time riding back from Auckland. It could have been rainy/icy/snowing. I could have crashed and died.
It could have failed the warrant. The seller could've changed his mind, leaving me stranded and out of pocket, so many things went so right.

May you all have such excellent times in future!
    That's all.

Good stuff!! Takes some guts getting in like that, but you have had your "baptism by full immersion" into motorcycling now. The previous owner of the bike would approve.
    Have fun!

Well done! Auckland to Wellington in 2 days with no previous experience on GN250... that's hell a lot more than many others can say about themselves... Hell I've been riding for a few months (doing my restricted next month) and I've been thinking about doing a trip from here to auckland and putting it off... after listening to your story, I'm heading off to auckland as soon as the weather clears, I get my restricted, the moons and the planets line up and the sun spots form a perfect triangle and........ never mind.....

    Well done! and lucky you...
I have deep pockets. It's just that it's a deep empty pocket...........

Always good to hear of a great buy by someone. Sounds like you have already started to get to know your bike with that ride as well.

Welcome to the site as well. Look foward to seeing you round
You know you had a good nite when you have to ask someone if you had a good nite.
