How about this for an excellent first-timer's experience?
It couldn't get much better.
I bought a gn250 on Trademe on Friday, it was super cheap. Suspiciously so.
Then got my learners license on Monday.
On Tuesday I flew from Wellington to Auckland on a cheap cheap ticket, trusting the seller would go through with the sale.
I picked up the bike, which turned out to be owned and very well maintained by a kindly old Baptist Minister who was also a mechanic.
He happily answered my newbie questions like "um... how do you change gears? Do you put in just petrol, or mix it with oil or something?"
I had never ridden a geared bike before, just scooters.
Then I spent two blissful days learning what buttons did what and how to ride proper-like, as I cruised in perfect sunny weather through the North Island back to Wellington.
Finally yesterday I renewed the Wof, with no work needed.
Talk about lucky! It could have gone terribly wrong at many points. The bike coulda been shit, I shouldn't have bought it without seeing it.
I could have had a terrible time riding back from Auckland. It could have been rainy/icy/snowing. I could have crashed and died.
It could have failed the warrant. The seller could've changed his mind, leaving me stranded and out of pocket, so many things went so right.
May you all have such excellent times in future!
That's all.
