What's a normal price for a steering damper?

Excuse my ignorance but I've never bought a damper before. So I was a bit taken back today to be quoted $799 for the Ohlins plus mounting bracket for the 636 bike. I was expecting they would be more around $350 to $450. Been pushing the bike a bit more than usual and she does tend to give you those bum tightening moments. Handlebars can go a bit mental when you are coming up out of a lean and apply full power. It's not that often it happens and just means you have to back off for a split second anyway.
I will just make sure I wear tighter undies in future and save $799. Buy a lot of undies for $799.
Curious if this price is reasonable though?

Yep Mark that price sounds about right! I put my damper on for the same reason, the odd bit of headshake from time to time was enuf to warrant it - no more scary shakes, even if the price is scary!

Actually, I was contacted by a member here on KB just after I bought my Blade, who offerred me a near new Ohlins damper with 954 bracket and an oval Micron stainless can...I payed $600 for them both, good deal eh!

Ohlins is Ohlins and you get what you pay for!

Maybe drop your aim a little to a $400 dollar product?

I mean quality and craftmanship are rare these days and you have to pay, look at the price of a decent watch compared to a G shock et al, but a G Shock tells the time do you really need a Tag?

How much do you think a big tank slapper followed by a bin will cost?

Try Hyperpro Dampers...might be a bit cheaper and just as good I hear.
    Around the $650 mark.

$799 way too expensive who quoted you that?

Talk to Norm at Suspension Tech he's an Ohlins dealer and I'm sure he'll give you a better price than that

We put an Ohlins damper on my wife's K5 SV650S. Can't remember the exact price, but remember thinking it was good value. It came with the custom fitting kit specific to the bike. A quality piece of kit, makes the front end feel great. You get what you pay for, and the advantage of buying locally is the back up

    Thanks for the info folks

Cheers for that everybody. Sounds like the NoBins damper is the better one and those US$ prices are still in the ball park of what I was quoted.
Still don't see it as a serious problem on my bike to warrant the cost. There's a good chance I will change bikes next year anyway.
I doubt it shakes enough to cause a bin- mag testers have said the same i.e. it can give an exciting shake but seems to sort itself out.
Someone turned up at the Taupo track day in May on an identical bike with the Ohlins. That's where I saw it and got the idea to look into the cost. I was impressed with the fitting, clean and tidy job, none of this ugly welding and large brackets getting in your road. Only problem was it used the centre steering column, which I need to mount the radar.

But you never break the speed limit, so what do you need that extra bit of weight for?

Yep that's exactly what I'm thinking about TS. Not interested in another thou. The front runner is the 675 at the mo. It's different, classy euro trash and proving itself as the best in the group in just about ever mag test so far. I'm going to wait and see what Kawasaki release for the 07 ZX6R replacement. That news should be out around Sept. The local K shop is already lining me up for first shipment orders. If they up the engine size I would be seriously keen. Otherwise it's the 675 or GSR750.
