60 only 7 years away - at 25 I promised myself I would be riding dirt bikes at fifty - promise fulfilled. I haven't made any promises for 60 but I'm aiming to still be riding dirtbikes at 60 (probably my Gas Gas 250)
As for a roadbike - I'm thinking a big soft Adventure bike thats off road capable - KTM990 would be nice but realistically Suzuki DL 650.
A mate, at 65, is riding a KTM 400 EXC so he provides a target for me age/riding wise.

We are already well past that so haven't voted.

We have downsized but that wasn't age related, it was budget related.

We wanted a more versatile bike because we can only really afford to have one bike now, that includes space in the garage etc.

The TransAlp has done everything we have wanted it to do for us so far. (I miss the power though, sometimes.)

I know from listening to other people, that I am very fortunate with my best mate still enjoying riding on the back and everything and going touring around etc.

Size or power of bike isn't really a factor of age so much as good health, you can't expect to hold a big bike up if your legs and hips are shagged.

One thing to remember about age though is that you don't respond as quickly in the cold and that's the most dangerous factor, I believe. Cheers John.

Given I'm already 42 and my bike's an '03 model of a motorcycle reputed to be "bulletproof" I should still be riding it unless I get too senile to remember to put oil in it.

Aim to have a veritable fleet by then - old BMW R100CS (which will be around 40 years old by then) and a couple of road/trail bikes of various sizes - one purely decked out for the road for cheap commuting, the other set up for on and off-road use and adventure touring. Plus a couple of trophy-bikes purchased brand new and never ridden just to clean and drool over for the shear satisfaction of finally being able to afford one.

Been there...................still riding. But as Oldrider says it's the cold that 'git's' to ya. Went for a run a few weeks back. Just a shortie 150k's or there abouts by the time I got back into the city I could hardly operate the clutch because of carpel problems.

Promised myself a trip up to Nelson in couple of weeks time but in truth I'm begining to baulk at the idea. Eight hundred odd k's in two days..............it's a big question mark at this time of year.

All in all, I find the cold affects me less now than it did when i was young. Prolly cos I'm fatter now!

But one thing I have noticed in the last few years, is that cold weather makes my eyes sting and water if I ride at any sort of speed with the visor up (on a naked bike I mean) .

Never used to do that.Must be some change in the nature of the air. I blame the french tests, they've buggered the atmosphere.

Other than that i can't say I've seen any physical issues that would affect my riding in the last 40 years. Maybe reflexes a wee bit slower, but they're still pretty good (by objective timing tests, < 0.2 sec) . Eyes were always a bit funny, no worse now. Not as fit as I was, but that only shows up if I have to push a bike.
