Dangers of NOT filtering!

Binned it on the way to work yesterday.

Traffic lights, three lanes turning right onto a major six lane road and I'm in the outside lane three cars from the front. I normally filter up to the front at these lights but this time I didn't and I'm not too sure why not. Won't make that mistake again.

The lights change and everyone's off, get up to second and doing about 40km/h, dip into the bend and the car in the middle lane moves across into my lane mid bend and clips my front tyre. I get into a hell of a wobble, hit the gutter, loose it completely and lowside on my left. That right turns directly into bright sunshine so she may have lost her lane marking. Who knows.

Car that clipped me didn't stop. Probably didn't even know. In fact no one stopped even though I'm blocking a lane and trying to pick my poor cibby up one handed.

Damage report me: Sprained wrist.
Damage report leathers: Road rash on toe & knee sliders, boot ankle armour, glove, elbow.
Damage report bike: Left mirror, left indicators, left fairing (plastic) massive scratches, nose fairing (fibreglass) smashed.

Want to highly recommend Quasimoto body protection. Everywhere my body hit the Quasi gear did it's job. What more can you ask hey?

I don't know how anyone can hit someone else, then carry on driving and say they didn't realise they'd hit anything.

Same as the whole "I didn't see you" thing. Anyone using either excuse should have their license taken away IMO.

Still... good that you're not too badly roughed up, any idea of Rego number of the car?

That sucks bro. At least when you ride "Somewhat" aggressively, you are taken notice of, and tend to get off the lights quicker etc, sometimes riding passively can be a greater danger.

glad to hear your ok... by the sounds of it the leathers did thier job....

and weasel i doubt he was concentrating on getting the cagers rego.....as he was binning by the time he was stopped and able to look cager would have been well gone.....

also myself if there is not enough room to split and it is right turning and i am in the far left lane i always take the corner very late to avoid these situations....rather than following the road lane i go straight for a long time then throw it in yes i have to go slower but i have avoided being hit by so many cagers by doing so....because if they cross into my lane they have plenty of room.

Yep - that's how I figure it. With my Roo pipe I'm normally waking them up as I filter past. Get out front and stay there I think's the best plan. Not sure why I was being a nana yesterday. Sorry - won't happen again!

Cagers are such idiots, I can almost find some form of understanding when there insignificant observation skills fail to pick up a motorcycle like they so often do with mine. But some idjit changing lanes drove into my big 1 ton,7 foot high, wider than a truck, bright yellow tree chipper.

There isnt much hope for our species is there.

The car was a bastard - although I'll be a bastard and say as part of your hazard recognition you should have predicted that the stupid driver wouldn't be able to hold his line and take a lazy line through the turn. (It's easy to be an expert seated in my heated room).

I'm glad you came out ok. Do you have insurance .. man that really sucks. Would the area you crashed in be monitored by some kind of traffic cameras?? Maybe you could find out the details of the car through that.

and the cage didnt stop.. if they took licences away from people who said "I didnt see you" we would have nice open roads to ride on....
but yes, as soon as i was confident, i started splitting to the front at each set of lights as i dont like sitting in those ques as cages cant see me that well...

Damn that sucks. I cant believe how bad drivers are in NZ.
I just started riding again as I have been over seas for quite some time. The amount of times that "cagers" as you put it have decided to come into my lane.... well I couldnt count them and I have only been riding for about 6 months.

I personally ride aggresively for that exact reason. If your out front then they cant hit you.
I ride like all the other people on the road are out to hit me. Thats my excuse to the cops to when they pull me over one day.
