RG150e

Ok so I'm selling my Gn125, it's time to start looking for a new bike. Flicking through some advertisements I come across an RG150e. "good engine, 60,000k 1998 $1500". Can't say I know much about the rg150 other than it's 2 stroke. Sound like a deal or a lemon?

If its done 60,000 and its a good engine, it won't be its FIRST engine.

I would expect an RG150 engine to last 30,000 before needing work done on it (quite expensive work too).

I suggest you talk to twosmoker about these bikes. Give him a pm about them.

sounds like a LOT of kms.

Also cheap for a RG150E....check out the last rebuild time.....or last new engine time

I had one.
Be weary of 60000km on a rg150. Even if the motor has been replaced,, replaced with what?! Another motor that had done 40000km?

Don't know why they say the're expensive to work on? Compared to what?
Single cylinder two stroke should be one of the cheapist things to get fixed up compared to other motors. Do it yourself even, there's nothing hard about changing piston/rings on a RG150. We can talk you through it. Just need a garage and some basic tools.
Parts can be expensive, but then parts for ANY bike are expensive.

They are a great bike. If it was in good con, but had 60000 km on it, I would think it might be worth between$1000 & $1200.
For $1500 you can pick them up with 20000km on if you wait and watch.

Sorry Racey, should have clarified myself. For the average person who buys these bikes ie teenagers, they will be expensive to fix as they require so much maintenance.

Of course, it's a great opportunity to learn motorcycle mechanics too...

easy To work on--yep if yopu have experience. If its your daily rider nope not a good idea

I would advise against it. 60,000 km is too many for an RG. I had a 1998 RG150ES, the engine seized at 48,000 km, and had to be rebored, with quite a few parts chaged. When I sold it, it had done just over 60,000 km (50,000 km during my ownership). I sold it earlier this month to Action Bike Wreckers, after it sat for quite a while in my parents' basement. My opinion of the RG150s is high, but 60,000 km is a lot for a two stroke, and $1,500 is certainly a high price for one in such condition. I sold mine for $130.

P.S. What is the registration number of the RG you mentioned?

Glad I didn't make any rash decisions, came across an rg150 today with only 373km for the same price, aparently the last owner crashed it and lost his courage to ride so it's just been sitting around since 2000.
