Kids, Motorcycles, rain and almost binning

It seems parents have told their children not to step out infront of cars, but forgot to mention motorcycles, hence a whole group of them stepped out infront of me today, allowing me to explore the ability of my new tires to slide down a wet road........

Fu*k with the weather we have been getting lately, it would have been Ten-Pin Bowling if that had been my CBR1000F. Glad you and the kids are OK.

SO WHAT WERE YOU DOING RIDING YOUR BIKE DOWN THE ROAD FOR GOSH SAKES?? i mean its common knowledge that the road is for cars and pedestrians -Mototcyclists arent soposed to be on the road.
Try riding on the foot path where bikers belong
seriously though dude I'm glad noone was hurt.
I always say Hey expect the worst outa people -Kids are so darn unpredictable.
Hey dude -I might sound like an old man here but ask yourself these questions.
What did i learn from this ?
What could I have done different?
Not a blame thing, but hey when a bike versus almost anything accident happens its usually the biker comes off worst So whilst its fresh in your mind think it through and see if ya coulda saved yaself a heart stopping moment

    Well, usually. Lesseee...
Bike versus gravel patch/pedestrians: I was worse off
Bike versus car: I was worse off
    Bike versus cyclist: Me again
Bike versus softdrink can: Me. Again. Dammit.
    Bike versus pedestrian: Pedestrian.
    Bike versus car: Me again.

My first crash after moving to D'Auckland, and the first on the ill-fated VFR.

I turned down a sidestreet while riding to work, and the front tyre ran over a squashed softdrink can I didn't see (on account of all the paint being scraped off, so it was almost road-coloured) just as I tipped in.
BAM!! Down I go, before I even realised what was going on. Not much damage - broken brake lever, some fairing cracks and scrapes, and a hole in my new at the time Teknic jacket. And a sore shoulder (previously injured) when it took almost all the impact.

I think it was one of them there V cans. Maybe an insect slid it in front of my bike, and that's why I didn't see it....

Funny, similar thing happened to me this morning. A mother LED HER CHILD BY THE HAND out in front of me on my trusty pushbike. She saw me at the last minute and stopped. Her son didn't and got tapped on the legs as I slid to a stop. She made the mistake of deciding to make an issue of it, and is probably still digging herself out from under the heap of abuse. Felt bad for her lad, but FFS...

Wouldn't have minded so much but we were less than 20ft away from a pedestrian crossing at the time.

Yeah, but you've got that special section of the public who feel that "close to" a pedestrian crossing means "on" the pedestrian crossing. For values of "close to" up to and including the same street...

Pedestrians are very unpredictable. The one I ran over was crossing the road against the lights with a group of friends. When the light changed to green, they were in the middle of the road, so I proceeded slowly, paused, tooted the horn at them. Most of the group turned back to the curb, but one decided to stay in the middle of the road. I decided to go, and veered to the left (behind the direction she was headed in). Just as I got even with her, she turned around through 180 degrees, AWAY from me, and walked right in front of me. Despite the fact I was braking and swerving, and not going very fast, she left me no room to manouevre and I hit her in the leg, and went down on the road for a short slide.
I dunno whether she decided it wasn't a good idea to stand in the middle of the road after the lights had changed, or her friends called her back, but it was probably the worst thing she could have done. But after a week in hospital with a leg broken in two places, I don't hink she'll do it again.
Of course, I felt awful about the whole thing, but the cops who attended said it was her fault, and so she was also liable for the cost of fixing my bike (about $2800). Hopefully the pain and suffering (including financial) have made her a little less blase about how she crosses the road....

I had a mate crash his bike cus a girl ran out in front of him when he came round the corner of an intersection and he had no choice but to bin it to not hit her. At least the BMW rider at the lights who was waiting saw this and abused the living shit outa this girl along wit a few other drivers as to wut she caused. cost him $120 for the repairs and he didnt worry bout the scratches on the bike. he only got a bruised leg lucky for him.
